Die Cast Lighted 1/350th TOS Enterprise (TOMY crowd funded)

If the engineers that helped design it can't be trusted then who above them at TOMY would be ! I doubt Joe CEO at the top wouldn't know anything about structural engineering !
Perfectly true. The point I am making is that we need a clear statement directly from Tomy and the designers about this issue otherwise we are having to trust second/third hand information. It’s a pity they didn’t state this recommendation in the instructions. Believe me I’m all for displaying it on the single stand. The enterprise looks really gorgeous like that and we can choose to display the port/beauty side without compromise. I’m getting mine tomorrow so the excitement is high. The info is promising because it looks like those pegs would provide adequate support. I guess I would just like an official tick from Tomy.

I received these statements from a TOMY employee:

“You can display the fully assembled ship on the main stand, without the saucer swoosh support or the clear support post”.

“Our Product Integrity Team is hyper-cautious and insisted that we include the other supports”.

I added:
“I assumed the swoosh was mainly for saucer sep mode” and his response was “correct”.

I believe this is more a precaution against being knocked over vs. long-term damage to the model.

But as mentioned, since this is second hand information it can’t be considered official instruction from TOMY.

Thanks very much for the clarification. Much appreciated. It looks like caution is the watchword and I can see why Tomy might not want to come out and openly recommend the single stand display. Anyway, Im going ahead with the single option and I’ll just have to keep a long term weather eye on the alignment. Paul H.

Haha. When I get home I will take a quick picture. I don't have room yet to set it up so I re-nestled it back in starbase...
Shield damage to starboard nacelle at bussard collector!

Imagine the uproar if there was only the single stand and dozens of models were knocked over. Now if we decide to ignore the official instruction it’s on us.

The only one I had was this so that's why I went with Tomy's
No-one needs to feel bad wheter they kept the TOMY or not. If it makes anyone feel better, I had a number of these ordered until last month, then decided to only keep one order. I don't feel bad about it at all. I also think TOMY did a very decent job overall.

Well, my crew has boarded the Enterprise and already a lethal incident has occurred! Kirk and Spock initiated the first shuttle launch at the hangar deck. Later, two lifeless red shirts were found lying on the primary hull near the shuttle, after having apparently checked out a breach in the primary shield in the ship's starboard naucelle next to the bussard collector. Actual cause of death is yet to be determined, awaiting an autopsy from Dr. McCoy!

Haha. You should paint one up in a space suit and put him near your paint chip with a little bucket of paint....lol

How did those Red Shirts get out their without space suits and also shouldn't they have just floated away ?

ROFL !

Jebus I hate how they made the shuttle with a gap as well with a split . All the paint globs on the imperfections and a rear seam split to boot. Further, the shuttles look like a cottage cheese paint job. Why in the hell did they not make the shuttles as one piece?

On a large mass produced diecast like this there are bound to be paint imperfections. It's unavoidable. Even most new cars have paint imperfections. Just the way it is. As for the shuttles. Yeah they are very weird. But easily thrown out and replaced. The shuttle bay seam is on all of them as well.
