I'm planning on trying aluminum tape for some of it, but those side panels are going to be tough to hide. Perhaps a better class of silver paint might be an idea?
I'm usually one for appreciating these as cool toys and not getting too worked up into turning it into more than it's not, but I have to say Diamond has really outdone themselves this time.
I also think many of the "inaccuracies" on this are more an issue with the details of the prototype than any concessions made just because it's a toy. I think it looks pretty much exactly like an HMS tricorder, which might not have the exact proportions of the MR or the original tricorders, but we're talking about fractions of an inch.
I don't know if the DST tric is size accurate either. I think the HMS tric was a bit big. The MR Tricorder was just about correctly sized.
As a toy it looks good, I never did get a MR tricorder
and since I waited to long now the DST is sold out:confused

DST is not sold-out. The sciences version is available for pre-order at newforcecomics.com and the medical version at entertainmentearth.com.

I don't believe we've seen yet what the DST med scanner can do. The Science scanner is shown in one of those Youtube videos, and it has the color cycling LED in the base (actually blinking different colors; in the original prop it was a color wheel since of course there were no LEDs in those days).
I just re-watched the YouTube demonstration videos (previously linked in this thread) and noticed the sciences tricorder appears to have some sort of "sentry" mode or callback feature similar to the DST TOS communicator. In the vid, the tricorder is left alone for a few seconds and then it starts beeping for someone to play with it. Cool.![]()
