Dewy and Anakin Starkiller's Accurate Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 1 Lightsaber Design

This looks really good overall. I do have a few observations/questions.

1. Will these be clear anodized, or left as machined?
2. The bevel on the bottom of the emitter shroud is quite pronounced. That is correct?
3. The choke area around the top of the main grip shroud--that has a bevel cut. I thought that was a straight cut? That feature looks different from the original to me. It looks more prominent on your prototype, but that could have to do with the angle of the images.
4. The grooves on the emitter shroud look slightly deeper/sharper than the original.
5. Do you have any closer pictures of the brass barb knurling?

Great work guys. Can't wait to get one of these.

Pardon if I missed this in the threads, I went back and skimmed but couldn’t find it… will this be able to accept a carbon dueling blade? Or will it just have the static emitter?

I love how invested everyone is in this project! Great eye for detail! Regarding your questions:

1) as-machined
2-5) these are pictures of prototypes from the shop. Once Anakin Starkiller and myself have these in-hand we will be going over every tiny detail to tweak our design and/or work with the machine shop as needed until we are happy.

I will say that some of the details you are pointing out are because the hero prop was clearly machined, then polished, then beat to hell. That’s why in some shots in the film it had an almost chrome like mirror finish and in the post production reference pictures it is relatively dull. Also why grooves and edges appear somewhat soft.

That’s a good question. The intent of this project was to replicate the static hero prop, which almost certainly never had a blade attached. That being said, the emitter section does have an M10 threaded rod in it, just like all the bladed stunt sabers did, so it should be entirely possible without modification. You will need to get a longer threaded rod than what we plan to supply though.

Long story short, we can’t guarantee compatibility with any blades available, but it should be possible.

Haha yes, up until the sequels, all dueling props had solid material around the threaded rod or tang. These were copied in solid resin around the threaded rod for that.

That being said, it would be neat to have an aluminum pole for display, is there room for a longer rod down inside?

Absolutely--happy to contribute.

As machined is perfect. Yes, the finish is quite polished in the film from being handled so much. The paint even looks glossier in the areas where the actor's hand gripped it the most.

Keep us posted on the updates. The machine shop has done a great job already. I'm sure everything will be perfect.

To say I am over the moon is an understatement. Is the prototype perfect? No, but the really tricky stuff the shop nailed. All the nuance and asymmetry in the emitter shroud that I spent hours and hours and hours modeling and iterating is perfect!

I had some time to get out my good camera and take some better shots. A couple disclaimers upfront:
  1. This is a prototype
  2. LEDs & O-ring are missing
  3. LED bezels are not fully screwed in
  4. Saber is only loosely assembled
  5. Red Button & Brass Knob knurling are incorrect
  6. Saber is covered in fingerprints

incredible work! I had no idea about the machining around the neck transitions...

did they duplicate the original knob threading or is it skinnier?
