Dengar

I know a couple folks have done Dengar here (yes, I used the search feature so I know I'm not the first one :) ) but I've been working on one for a little while. I need to have it done by Phoenix Comic Con in 10 days.

Got the coveralls, balaclava, hat, and pouches done. Just finished doing base coat on armor and getting ready to weather. As with most folks, the chest greeblies were the toughest part:

Next up is strapping, assembling backpack and weathering.

Doing the backpack was my favorite part.

It has certainly been the most time consuming and has almost been an obsession, and yet fun. Given the one known grainy photograph of his back, it has allowed a little creativity in making it look like that picture. We did find that it is visible for a few frames as Dengar turns towards Vader and it actually helped make decision about strapping and shape.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have to work late tonight and tomorrow but will be back at the Dengar on Friday night. Yea!

I used the 12" figure's backpack for reference, since it looks pretty close.

Here's a pic I found online of my backpack:

Thanks! That picture would have helped me about six weeks ago! :p

Got all the backpack pieces together and even though I went super light on items wherever possible, it still comes in at 8 pounds :(

Still working on stuff. Maybe backpack pics by tonight and hope to have "done" pictures by Tuesday.

The "fins" on the side of the largest section are just a one piece, rubber CD holder from Ikea. Worked perfectly and it all attaches with just a few rivets.

I debuted Dengar at Phoenix Comic Con last Saturday. Yea! It was the first time I actually put it all on together. I know you probably shouldn't wear a costume for the first time at a con and did have a few problems. Tonight I fixed a few things and took my 501st submission pictures:
