Re: Iron Man WIP

Thanks guys it keeps me motivated to know it's pretty decent and people know what is all about. :) I should have an update soon I hope.

So have you had to redo any piece because after resin it was to small?
Sorry if I took anything away from you on the other forum by describing how some of the paper stuff is made.

NO not redo, just add a bit here and there. Some of the peps fit great in height but are too large in width or the other way around, I've just added or taken out a bit here and there. No big deal once it's glassed you'd never know anyway, doesn't have to look pretty till the filler is getting done. :)
And no by all means go wild, I couldn't be bothered any more.

Re: Iron Man WIP

Looking awesome, I'm blown away!
Do you apply the filler with a brush to get thin layers? I'm a globber and need to be a little more precise.

lol globber.

That made me laugh, I totally used to be the same way. :lol

Re: Iron Man WIP

Nice, very cool work. When you add the resin and fiberglass on top of pepakura, what do you use for make it smoth? Bondo, putty...?

Re: Iron Man WIP

WoW, this is the best thing since string cheese.

I love how you can see the soul in this work of art. Its beautiful. The time you put into sanding, really paid off.

Brush??? Never heard of brushing filler before. I apply filler as I would any other day at work, with a trowel. :lol Na kidding, with a reg filler spreader and in some spots (quit a few) with my finger.

Well not Bondo but automotive grade filler, way better to sand and shape.

Thanks, not as much time as you think it's what I do. :)

Re: Iron Man WIP

not having made anything more complex than a grilled cheese sarnie could somebody explain "resin the outside, once that has cured you glass the inside" I guess by glass you possibly mean fiberglass, but what kind or resin do you mean?
sorry but most of this is totally new to me, thanks

Re: Iron Man WIP

Thought I'd throw this up here instead of answering multiple pm and emails.
I just started working with PEP approx a month ago so I might not be the best guy to ask questions on how to use the program or even the best way to build em. If your looking into trying out PEP you should head over to the 405th http://405th.com/forums/index.php?act=idx
They have pretty much all the info and tut's you could need, it's where I started last month.
You can get the program direct form the source.
http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/
The viewer is free and you can print from that if you have a file that is scaled proper. The shareware designer can do everything the full version does except save moded files. So if you need to scale and want to save or unfold and save you'll have to fork over the $38 which I think a person should do just for using the great program. :) There's also basic shaped to try out see if you like or have the time etc to get into this. Hope that helps whoever wants to try it out. :thumbsup

Re: Iron Man WIP

Small update, about 90% of the pep is done hope to have it complete by tomorrow night or the night after (shoulder bell, boots and rebuilt COD) then onto resin/glass and filler. It was driving me crazy looking at it in white and the red oxide primer I had would have turned it pinkish so..... Well I only had and hour. B) Hope you like it, might rebuild some of the stuff and maybe a little wider yet on the legs. Not sure though.

I opened the leg up a bit after peping.

I've started and stopped three replies trying to think of a way to compliment this project. I'm certain, in the end, my compliment will be something along the lines of...

That isn't the actual prop from the movie? Really...?

Re: Iron Man WIP

I see youve been really busy. Very nice. I like the color scheme as well.

Re: Iron Man WIP

Awesome :love

It's hard to be screen accurate with pepakura models, but you're damn close!

I'm in hurry to see it finished!
