Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

So after losing enough weight to fit in to my suit, i finally tried it on in its almost entirety tonight...

I don't think it looks too shabby. Havent finished the lid yet, hence nothing above the shoulders. What say you?

Forgive the pose... it was the only way i could get a pic in a small mirror.

Thanks man. im pretty happy with how it turned out too. I've had it on the dummy for ages but it looks so much better being worn.

That is one of the better foam builds I have seen. I love the shape of everything and the paint job is killer. I would love to know how it holds up to the abuse of wearing it. Keep us posted. I can't wait to see more pics.

That paint job is GNAR! I can't wait to be finished with mine.

Big Thanks to Robo for these files! Huge thanks to Stealth, I know I've asked him a few questions, especially on scaling for size. Thanks to Stevie and Rob as well, and anyone one I've asked for help. I'm hit or miss on getting the hot glue to look right. The same goes with cutting good 45 degree angles. this is very addictive though!

Ok two questions, How do you properly scale the Thighs? I'm assuming just measure from top of femur to the side of the knee?

Abdominal section, is it the same scale that you use for the chest RT and back? I don't have a real gut or anything so I'm guessing the scale for the chest is the same for the abs.

Stevie, your MK VI is awesome. Hope mine is as good!

Thanks all

This Mark VI looks amazing. Great job. Do you have a build thread? I hope mine comes out half as good.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. its appreciated.

No build thread unfortunately, but I'll get any new pics up as/when they get taken.

If you feel like spending the time doing it, what I've been doing is using a dremel to clean up the angled cuts. You can get a much more even angle, and get it right up to the lip of the flat side of the foam, so you don't have as pronounced of a seam. Also make sure you are hotgluing as close to the seam as you can so there's no unglued space between the top two smooth sides of foam.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

EVERYONE in the thread in particular has been a huge help and inspirational. I've costumed, and worked with foam to create small stuff but this suit is a first for me. I appreciate all the previous posts and tutorials from this RPF community. Thanks!

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Thanks MSLEEPER. I do love my dremel, I'll give that a try. good idea!

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Awesome work Stevie ! You would have to be pretty close up to see that's its made from CAMPING MATS !! lol

Can i ask what your dimensions are if you don't mind ? Chest, Waist, & Height.

msleeper, i've been using this method, works great at tidying bits up and getting the right shape.

Make sure you wear eye protection and some kind of face guard (not like a full on respirator, but one of those throwaway white cloth ones). You get foam dust EVERYWHERE. It's too large and heavy to worry very much about inhilation, but getting it in your eyes and mouth sucks.

I redid my War Machine chest using this method after my first attempt was less than amazing. The results are already fantastic.

wristracer - What brand/size of foam are you using? Where did you get it from?

wait so you dremeled the outside of the joined edges? wouldnt that roughen up the surface there, and give a different look?
or did i missunderstand something due to language barrier :D

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

You dremel the edge that should be angled inwards to create the convex shape. It's the same method as cutting on an angle, but the dremel gives you much more control over the depth and angle.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

i still dont quite understand it, but ive not worked with foam yet, maybe im just stupid :D
