Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

How do you guys over come the natural curve of the foam from where its been rolled up ?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I tried that exact one, and it is crap. Avoid.

I used these...

Karrimor Foam Mat - SportsDirect.com

I much preferred the thicker stuff. To answer you question re. the curve of the mat... heat. Gun or hairdryer.

Hey guys,

I'm in the UK and looking for some foam... I'm looking at camping foam mats, something like this... 180cms EVA CAMPING HIKING FOAM SLEEPING MAT MATTRESS TENT CARAVAN SLEEPOVERS | eBay

But is says "Non-absorbent mat", would this be a problem ? It seems all camping/yoga mats are Non-absorbent.

Cheers
Adam

Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates Thread -Easy to Build and "Green" Vers

Inspired to have a go myself. Just a few questions.. i'm planning on using 5mm EVA foam, but what density? I was thinking the firmer the better, so will probaby get 220kg/m3. I can even get this in red sheets. Thoughts?

Also, has anyone tried laying up the pep files on PDFs the same size as your foam sheets and printing the pep straight onto the foam with a flatbed printer? It will save dozens of hours!

Final question, has anyone tried mixing some black plasti dip into the red to get a nice cherry, and then simply finishing with plasti dip "glossifier?". I.e. no paint, just plasti dip?

Comments appreciated

Stark Naked (coz i don't have any armour yet!)

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I think that most people don't have access to a printer that would print on thicker foam sheets. That would be an interesting thing to try for someone that does have that access.

Let us know if you try the plastidip paint job. I would also be interested in seeing those results.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Hey stark naked;

I wanted for the chest and the back to look a little beefier; and sturdier; so I used 10mm foam; as for the rest; I'm using 6mm for the shins, legs and arms; for the abs I will use 4 or 5mm; that way I get a more angular closer look to the real armor; I think I may even use 10mm on the abs that way I keep my posture straight and look a little less fat...the shoes I'm using 10mm over my old Nike Air Max, that had seen better days, but they still comfortable and it makes me look even taller; I'm 5'11" and with those and the padding I'm putting under looks like close to 6'2"

Going on to ebay now to look for pure coat!

Presuming its just pure coat and no need for pva?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I bought 1/2 inch thick EVA foam..is this okay? I dont know where to get 1/4 thick.

Also, does it matter what the texture is like on the outside of the foam?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Well 1/2 inch is 6mm; which is actually a nice density and easy to work with; check wandy foam for the different sizes; they deliver fast and the material is awesome, look for them on ebay; you can get 10 sheets 12x18 for $17...texture is better if is not too coarse that way you don't have to do a ton of sealing material....

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

1/2" foam is 12mm, you meant 1/4" for 6mm. looking good everyone!!

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Should I even bother with the 12mm then? I could just go get a refund.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

oops my bad wrong calculations; 12 mm I think is too thick, I used 10mm and it is a pain....
