Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Yeah, I can imagine that would get quite hard because it won't just naturaly form to the correct shape like normal pepakura would

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

In early stages in this does it matter if your hot gluing is less than perfect? Well, way less, looks like crap even. I got way off on some of the joints and it looks hideous. Also does the thigh and shin lock together. I might be in trouble because my calfs are so big.

I'm building this to wear to my daughter birthday party and it's in October. I planned to do half pep and half foam. I can post a picture of what I have if that helps. Edit- Oh I made a rookie mistake with this. After I put the shin together I had a bright idea of using my heatgun to form the pieces to get them to stay. The hot glue heats up and it falls apart..... :facepalm

According to Don Robert, you can sand the excess glue after, once it's dry but i like to do it the cleanest possible from the begining.
For the shin part, I do lock them, same way as the Biceps/forearm because if i don't, the whole thing slides down and won't stay in place as i walk around.

Good luck with your build.
The heat gun part made me smile :)
Just change the scale of the pieces to fit you properlly.
The final look may seems a bit disproportioned though :/

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I read somewhere on this thread about using modge podge to seal the seems then sand.... anyone else out here have experiences with that?

Stevie,

What did you use to seal the foam before painting?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Question - Does anyone have any first hand experience using any hardening agents with the EVA foam? I'm used to using resin and fiberglass and I would like to use that method over the EVA foam so I can get a more buffed look for the paint, but I have no idea how the resin will react with the EVA foam.

Thanks!

No race, i'm really taking my time with this. :)

As for sealing. PVA glue. Lots of it. After that i found that watering down Polyfilla (water based multi purpose crack filler) to a milky consistence and brushing it over the PVA, then lightly sanding it once dry... gave it a "brushed" metal look, of sorts. Which is What i wanted.

Dont get me wrong, it's not perfect, but its not bad.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Plasti-dip is a good product to use if you want to seal foam; but very harmful if you use it indoors...

Here is my forearm, as you can see it. I did not glue it together correctly so it looks off and very blocky.

you just got to play with it but the scaling #'s in 2d menu will give you an idea of length just make sure to give some extra room for padding, shoes whatever

First of all looks good.....Im guessing your a perfectionist like me, if your not happy you can reshape with some heat or melt the glue and redo I use contact cement it takes longer but you dont have to rush your joins

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

I do use contact cement too...Soon I will be posting my build here so you guys can give me your opinion or maybe some tips to make it better...I also use the glue gun just to reinforce the joints....

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Oh! forgot!!! do you guys feel the same need to loose a couple of pounds to fit on your suits better...I mean on the gut area to get that angular look? hahahahaha
