Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Great post! Thanks for sharing!

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

If your using Pep designer to scale your pieces just leave them long enough for your arm. ;)

Is there a way of modifying one of the dimensions, i.e. length, without changing the rest of the sizes?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Sup' guys !
I started the sealing process yesterday with Wood glue mixed up with water but I have a problem :/

This morning i went to see how it was going but the coats of glue started to crack pretty easily.. I applied around 5 coats on my helmet and when i tried it, the glue cracked..

I'll update some pics later but for those who sealed their suit with the pva method, did you had similar issues ?
Maybe i should just applied more and more coats until I finnally got a flat surface to paint on ? :/

Any thaughts ?
Mr Bibou, you should use white school glue it is much more flexible when dry than wood glue.Plus it cleans up even when dry if you make a mistake, wood glue is not when dry.Hope this helps

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Thanks for your response Archer, I was so excited to start sealing my suit i took the first kind of glue i found x)

After 5-6 coats it started to be way more flexible but it will still crack if bend to far but
I guess this will always be an issue.
All i need is the suit to be flat so i can paint it and yet flexible enough to not crack when i put the helmet on or just sit.
I'll keep applying coats and tell you how it went.

Thanks again :)

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

A lot of work went into this and it looks awesome. You are making me want to do one of these and I don't even like Ironman.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Make sure the glue your using mentions "flexible hold"
I haven't tried wood glue but people had told me it was the same. I trusted their experience.

I use white craft glue which was a lot like school glue.
The piece from the video is still looking good.

Hope you can get it sorted out.

Also, minor cracks/creases are difficult to avoid. It won't ever be perfect with this method.

That's why I always stressed from the beginning. Not to overthink these suits
As they are not for the long term. :)

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Anyone have the Mk III files in foam? I thought I remember sometime back that someone may have been working on it.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Awesome pics and thread guys! I'm inspired to give this a shot. I have a newbie question with the pep files on this thread. Where does the "Brace" piece go? It looks like its worn like a chest piece but just can't figure out how/where its worn. Can anyone enlighten me (hopefully with a pic illustrating where it is on the armor)

honestly i dont think alot of guys use the brace, i would just use the upper back portion for the "spine" armor and scrap the rest

STEALTH posted them but I don't know if the thread made it to here, check on therpf.com, maybe you'll find them there.

Anyways, here's some progress !
As I said, I use wood glue in the first time and it didn't went well.. I guess the glue was too thick and not very flexible. Here's a pics of my helmet after i tried it :

As you can see, some cracks showed up..
I thaught it would be good after several coats but the glue started to peel of very easily..

I would not recommend you to use wood glue, it wasn't really effective.
After that, I managed to find some PVA glue in a craft store. The bottle says "white glue PVA" so guess it was what I needed :)

After fews coats the result was way better, PVA glue is way more flexible and liquid so it was easier to apply.

Here's some pics.

Love when it shines :love

Hope my (bad) experience can be useful to someone.
And now as promised, here is what my suit looks like onece all the parts were done.
Actually not all the part, I made the foot flaps and hip pods after the pics were done. I did new hand flap based on the pepaura files too, as the first one came out too small.

Anyway, tell me what you think about it :)

I may help you mate :)
I did the brace because there was a gape between the chest and neck piece..

Here is how I connected it :

I glue the back of the brace piece to the back of the abs piece.
Then, I extended a bit the top of the front of the abs piece and pu velcro on it to connect it to the brace so I can wear it kinda like a shirt.

The hole is made to fit inside the hole for the arc rector in the chest piece :

Hope it helped :)

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Looks Great!! You really have the scaling perfect for your body. It fits like armor should fit.

I would agree...PVA glue is way better than wood glue. Wood glue is just not meant to bond well with foam. The key to any good glue is the word FLEXIBLE!

I am looking forward to seeing this painted.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

MrBibou. your suit is excellent!
Very good job on the helmet as well.

I'm glad you sorted out the sealing.
You can see now the difference when it's more diluted as well.

Thank you for contributing your experiences with that and also the Brace part.
a lot of people would have asked that in the future.
I will just direct them to that post if they miss it.

can't wait to see it done. :)

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Thanks for the help with the brace Bibou and Stealth. You guys are great. Love how the armor came out Bibou! What thickness foam did you use?

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Anyone have a rough idea for a starting point for a scale in foam for Iron Man. I'm 5, 8, 170, I'm fairly proportioned. I measured from my rib to my collar bone for the chest piece and made it in paper craft first and it seemed small so I'm thinking about bumping it 10%. the original scale is 25 and some change and when I measured and converted I came up with 22 and change for scale and I think the chest piece was too small. same with the forearm, i measured elbow to wrist and it seems long enough, just snug for the new scale at the right length. help please. thanks

I'm 5' 8" and 195 size 42 chest, I didn't change the scale for the chest and I thought the scale was fine.Once you do the back you'll see they fit fine.Don't sweat it, it will definitely come together when you have them both done.
Russ.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Thanks Russ! i do have a gym habit and lift, but i'd say my chest is more around 39, 40 tops...very inspired by all the guys on this forum who have made Iron both Pep and foam. I have foam, but like I said ive been doing trial and error with paper first.

Re: Robo3687 - IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

MrBibou your suit is one of the most well proportioned and best fitting I have ever seen. Well done. :thumbsup
