Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates

Here is my first build. Certain parts have been challenging ie neck, thighs, abs...those darn abs....you can see in the images that they are too wide. Should be an easy fix hopefully. Really weird too, because I haven't adjusted anything in the templates when printing and everything else fits and is proportional. Anyways hope you like 'em. BlackDynamo2 costumes gave me inspiration so I thank him!

Looks good. The abs, those side bands should connect about a quarter of the way from the outer edge. Refer to the model in pepekura.

i absolutly agree^^
it seems that cardboard is easyer to handel than foam

Thank you both. Cardboard is WAAAAAY easier. Especially if it's your first build ever. I tried foam first. 2 kinds too: eva mats and 6mm (which was easier). The whole thing with the thicker foam like the EVA mats is that you need the 45 degree angle hobby-knife tool other wise you need to make everything at 45 degree angles by hand which is ridiculous.

Downside to anything with paper or cardboard is the finishing. To get it to look decent I'm going to have to do 2 coats resin to outside, fiberglass mat to inside, bondo, sand, primer, than paint. SO many steps.

Foam has the advantage here because you can build the suit than just coat it in glue, plasti-dip, prime, paint.

I guess bottom line its whatever you're comfortable with. Cardboard definitely is my strength over foam.

Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates

I'm finding the neck and thighs to be the trickiest parts to assemble. I constantly look at the models for each in the pepakura program itself and they are still challenging. I hope to have the suit built by halloween, but I probably wont finish it until late this year. Gotta go at a nice pace, don't want to rush any piece or finishing step...I kind of envision it as a display piece in my office and not as a costume.

Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates

i always do costumes (e.g. ironman) in foam since it's the fastest way. .. but i really started building ironman stuffs way back 2010 using paper pep. . .i might try the card board method next year. . .

Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates

First time posting, long time lurker. Everyone here are huge inspirations. I have a question though and apologize if it has been brough up before, I have read all 83 pages but dont recall seeing a real straight answer, if any.

Is it two weeks enough to complete a suit? I want it in time for halloween. I know I am asking a lot. I have two weeks off work, so all my time will building. But I dont want to start if its not even remotely possible. Any suggestions and/or guidance are welcomed.

Thanks
Zane

Re: IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates

personally two weeks is no where near enough but that is just me, if you are willing to dedicate every waking moment to building your suit you may be able to achieve your goal. good luck and be sure to post your progress I would love t see it ):thumbsup
