DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit Builds

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

Are you going to use a sealer at all?

At this time no. I think it should be good to go without it as this will be a showpiece more than anything.

On a separate note, if anyone has tackled how to get the bull barrel to sit flush on a Denix please let me know. It looks like a bit of grinding is in order in the area in front of where the screw attaches the barrel assembly (top half) to the bottom half of the Denix.

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

Yeah, I probably should. Pat recommended a lacquer finish/wax sealant, IIRC.

Alright cool thanks.

And by the way, thanks again for reaching out to me back in Jan about this run. I was at a point where I was trying purchase random parts off ebay. I was pretty much ready to admit defeat but your message was honestly one of the best things ever. I even bought a "stainless steel" flash hider with only 6 rows of holes and not 8 last Nov. I think I'll keep it around as nice paper weight. A memory of where I was in this journey!

What size drill bit is everyone using for the scope mount holes on the side oh the Denix? I was thinking 3/16-In but wanted to check before I drill. Thanks!

the threads on the kit are as follows:
- crossbar studs we already said were 1/4-20 inch
- screws to attach mount to crossbar are M4 x .7
- middle mount hole for thumbscrew is M6 x 1
- mount cap screws are M3 x .5
- scope knob screws are 4-40 inch
- barrel screw for flash hider is M5 x .75
Also make sure to check out the original thread that started it all http://www.therpf.com/f79/anh-hero-dl-44-discussion-three-anh-greeblies-found-118186-new/
And the Adam Savage build https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=4sCReGjfZ_A

Think this will help you :) (I've had the same question before ;) )

Yes; as I've gathered you'd need a 13/64 drill bit, then thread with a 1/4-20 tap.

I just ordered the upgrade kit. #341.

Man you are a true hero for us lesser fans. I would also like to pay the difference that I was charged too little for in international shipping.

Just a tiny request. The timeframe on the upgrades will be in the middle of my vacation-trip so I would be so grateful if you could delay sending to me with couple of weeks? (I forgot to put it as info for vendor when i placed the order)

That will work, or a #7 drill, the decimal size is .201 inch or 5.1mm

Figured I'd give everyone a heads up... had five minutes to try the cast kit parts and chemical treatments... Birchwood casey super Blue makes the flash hider look JUST like steel, super easy, super fast.

I put the FH in a small ziplock... poured some super blue in... and it darkened and rusted SUPER fast. Took some 000 steel wool gently to it to remove the rust layer, and Voila... instant aged steel flash hider. Hahaha... the easiest yet. Compared to my steel weathered flash hider... perfect match with less effort. You'll have the added option to leave some rust in the crevices, or keep treating and buffing...

Looks awesome!

I have a Denix and when drilling the 2 holes for the scope mount the hole at the front of the gun seems easy but the hole at the back has a lot going on with it. Do I drill all the way through? Also do I need a nut on the inside of the gun?

did you take apart the slide? on the denix there is the trigger assembly in there, you shouldn't need a nut but if you have room it might be a good idea anyway

for the rear hole , the material is thick enough to hold the threaded rod with just the threads. For the front, you can use a 1/4-20 nut inside the Mag Well... no harm

Ya I figured it out! I've taken my first step into a larger world. Next step is tapping these guys.

Umm Just doing a dry fit before I attempt this beast, & have come across this. Have I fitted them correctly, I have only hand tightened the screws. View attachment 338018

I noticed this too. I understand how scope rings work, however it is much more pronounced than I would like. I have at least 1/8 inch gap on both sides of each ring. I think I will be doing some sanding to try and reduce this.

Also, I was wondering how people were planning on painting the inside of the scope tube.

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

Just wanted to add my two cents to the fray. The rough spot on my scope is nearly corrected! Using a flat file, I filed down the rough spots to match the same curvature of the rest of the scope, then blended it in with the rest of the scope using wet sand paper of various grits. Finally, to even out the whole thing, I used a wire wheel to even out the finish on the entire body. It's not quite perfect, but it's much better than before.

My current blaster progress with this run's parts:

I'm holding off drilling and tapping, as I'm absolutely certain that if I did, I'd somehow manage to mount it crooked, which would kill it for me. So, for now, that'll be on Kpax (Pat's) plate.

A pic of the fitted grill:

Still needs to be lowered a little bit, but that's still to come.

The bull barrel joining point and Chamfering:

Still needs a little more filing to get a proper fit (there's a little gap still, and more bevel will be added as well.) I managed to knick a few little sopte on the hexanon port during filing, but those will be filled in and sanded smooth before bluing.

Finally, a pic of the scope and scope mount assembly:

Please keep in mind that although I've polished the scope itself up a bit, I've yet to touch the cast finish of the scope mount itself, so there's still plenty of work to be done. I'm still totally jazzed about getting these parts, even though there's a LONG way to go.

~But, as they say, it's a long, strange journey.~

:D

Smart idea on the drilling and tapping. Remember to be very careful everyone. I drilled and tapped today (first time ever doing this) Worked out pretty well! I could have drilled the holes about 1/16-1/8 inch higher on the gun. So make sure to measure twice... no measure 5 times and drill once :).

Also, whats the best way to get the bull barrel to sit flush up against the Denix? I'm assuming I need to sand and file the Denix a bit.

Thanks for sharing. This is awesome to hear! Is the FH the only part on the DL-44 you're doing this to or are there others?

Schbingo. The Denix barrel point need to be WAY filed down. Here's a link of one of Scottjua's Denix builds, and in it, he shows a pic of about how much fling needs to be done: http://www.therpf.com/f79/another-h...-accurate-parts-denix-210271/?highlight=dl-44 He did an AWESOME job.

As for my drilling, if it was a Denix, then I'd just gophorit, but because I'm using an MGC, I'd much rather be safe than sorry, so I'm leaving the more important and permanent stuff to the pros. Hope this helps!

I'll do them all just no time right now. But I was curious to see.

Today is all about grinding for the barrel to fit properly... oh and soccer. ;)

Re: Simplified, cheaper DEC ANH Hero Blaster Kit parts (posted with permission fr...

I know this has been beaten to death over the years but I have to ask. I your opinion what is the most accurate t-track? I have seen them full length, half length, full length but cut to mimic a gun sight....Which one is it? I know I'm potentially opening a can of worms here.

On a side note the area on the bottom of the scope that has a not so quite "perfect" finish can be fixed rather easily. Start by wet sanding and it will come right out. I used the following and it looks great: 180, 220, 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit.
