Yes, styrene is a awesome material. This is the fisrt time I build Something in scratch, and I am enjoying it. I have used it to do some small thing, but nothing like this nor far.
Some times is very difficult and frustating find a piece that fits with the original piece.
With this particular piece of the roof, I was looking a long time for something that would work. In the end, a simple button served me. It is not the same as the original of course, but I try to make it as similar as possible with the things I have or I can find.
The only pieces that remains are the tubes of the cannons, but right now I don't have a tube with the exact diameter, but well, I can start painting!. But first I will finish the ships.
Well, I made a stop building the ships. I wanted to paint after so much time just building. I have started by the tower. As this model is very large, painting it all in one grey tone did not excite me, so I chose to paint certain plates of a different shade of gray, and even some with a beige tone.
On top of the beige I applied light gray filters to integrate it into the set. Then I have worked with oils in black, browns, and different gray colors to add richness of colors, volume and dirt.
A pity that the light bulbs cover many of the transitions of these colors in the pics, the colors are much richer and stand out more in live.
I still have to paint the entire roof and the cannons. I also have to touch up the black lines around all the pieces
