Death Star door control panel

Canobi is working on creating a dome lens to fit the door stoppers. I can't wait to see them! It will certainly bring these door stoppers to life! :)

Wannab, the Peterbilt truck indicator lenses are too flat if I recall. The reason I bought a cache of the items in question was for a work project unrelated to this topic. Truck and emergency indicators were my second go after basic video game/pinball versions but lacked the height of vintage indicator lenses.
My garage is jam packed and the weather isnt forgiving enough to tear things out to get to the area I think these are stored in.

Okay robstyle, it's nice weather now. Get to digging!

Good work on modding the doorstops SofaKing01, best way to go at the mo and works great in the MF. I'm now plagued with these lamp lenses lol (they are reaching iconic status in their own light) - Two films watched today and guess what...

Fahrenheit 451

Journey To The Far Side Of The Sun

Though the Far Side shows as slightly recessed bezel and all props where reused for UFO, could still be a lead. Hopefully something will jog someones memory at some point.

The question I have... how come NOBODY can find these? There has to be some still laying around somewhere?

I'm still on the lookout, just missed another possible sale of this - which is still about the closest available to my eyes.

I will be mailing some peoples/companies in the next few days about these exact lens pieces - probably end up with a furnace lol.

This is awesome, great job guys. With all the variations, IMO the Fahrenheit 451 lights are the closest to good Ol' star wars (from the pictures on here) - Now I see them everywhere haha Can't wait to see what you guys dig up, loving this thread

Hi Wavey,

I spent several months calling and emailing nearly 100 companies from the US to the UK to Australia with ZERO luck... Nobody could identify them at all. I hope you have better luck than I did. :) I've got my pompoms at the ready!

Hi all,

Thought i would jump in and try and help locate these mystery parts.

To me, they look a lot like indicator lights on a B-24 bomber from WWII. Because of the time and what Lucas had available to him, wouldnt suprise me if he had a stock of these things lying around.

The buttons on the panel in yellow is a C-1 autopilot panel and the green is just a set of random indicator lights found scattered across the plane.

Id say someone go to a local airshow and take a picture of the light with them...."Excuse me sir, those planes are cool n' all, but have you see this indicator light?" almost positive you would find a match

oh fudge, that is soo plausible I'm at a loss for words. Not sarcasm either, I'm impressed

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but I work at an office at University at Buffalo's North Campus, and the elevator in my building is at least 30 years old and it has these perfectly domed metal buttons with a tiny hole for an LED in the center. They have a metal rim just like these but the center is not a clear light, just metal with a dot in the middle. Were Elevator buttons already looked at? haha

an example picture (I never have a camera at work) http://i.ytimg.com/vi/hdvUhi-IACE/0.jpg

Here's a few more pics from other productions with the pieces I am now convinced are all from the same maker, if not the actual same parts themselves. The other productions does open up the possibilty that some of the real parts may still be around among other groups of collectors. The last time I can find them (outside of Star Wars) is in Moonraker (1979), but I haven't gone through the '80s yet. Check out the 'Doctor Who And The Wheel in Space' (1968) pic, isn't that Cantina Guy's pressure suit? Maybe these props ended up being stored in the same box??

"No Mr. Solo, those are too big!"

Hi ShogunLogan, I just got a reply from one guy with extensive knowledge of such planes from the '40s to '80s but he says the type we are looking are probably too big for most dashboard/navi indicators. However, it's not far off from lights used to indicate 'doors open' or for 'parachute drops' but those are usually more 'behive' in lens shape as they hang down from the roof so must be seen from front to back of a plane.

One thing that is becoming clear, so far, is that these lenses are not part of a real existing panel or gadget so must of been purchased as individual components, say spares from Tandy's/RadioShack.

WOW! The one pic with Roger Moore (OO7), it looks like the same designers from the SW universe... :)

That's an interesting idea... I wonder if the lens and bezzled housing are actually a hybrid?

I have always suspected that these lights/bezels were originally intended for large pieces of industrial equipment - stuff that you would see in factories, not aircraft.

Thus, you aren't going to find it at some common retailer outlet (even if there was such a place in England in the 70's) since it was custom made.

Agreed - Not to be a downer, but with all the searching, calling, emailing, etc I've done... I dont think those particular lenses even exist anymore...

Close, but I'm almost positive the ridges are on the outside of the lens (based on the light reflections on the ridge lines in some grabs). I'm thinking they may be stepped ridges. This would place them in the warning/indicator light category (like the faceted ones) and therefore not a lighted push button.

Doug

Hey Doug

I´m in the process of building the slide viewer based setup and in need for these damn button as well.
Do we have the diameter of the bezels determined already?
