Deagostini Falcon. Anyone seen this?

My first four issues were on the doorstep when I got in. I can't decide if i should start building it or hold off. I definitely want to repaint it which I plan on doing once I have every issue, But part of me is thinking "what the hell, build it and take it apart again to paint". Probably won't mod it in any other way.

I got my second lot delivered today. 5,6,7,8. They haven't charged my account and my online status hasn't updated. Anyone else had this happen? I'm UK based.

I held off til my second shipment before I tore open the packages. Gave me a chance to think about how Iwas going to attack it and get a game plan. Do a little research and figure out how you want it to look. Personally, I'm gonna go with the whole ESB feel to it. I'll probably be getting some of the shapeways pieces Tony made to detail out the inside (don't like the stickers for the cockpit, would much rather have buttons I can paint as well as the rear nav seats). That type of thing. I'm probably gonna go all out with fiber optics and leds all over the place as well. I've got an old Star Destroyer with about 10 feet of fiber optics sitting in my closet that I have never touched. Will probably end up using them for my build. Found a good source for LEDs online and have been talking to them about maybe making some LED packages for various Star Wars kits. Will see how that come out. In any event, I suggest planning things out in how you want it to look before ripping things open and slapping it together. Patience always pays off when modeling... but it can be frustrating as hell too! :)

Good advice. As with others I'll probably head the ESB route. Still toying with the idea of replacing some parts with shapeways bits from Tony a bit further into the build, At least the main cockpit console and rear seats, and possibly some of the main hold. There won't be any fibre optics for me, My plan when finished is to display it within a glass coffee table (pops will be set to work on that one, although he doesn't know it yet) so It'll only be opened up on rare occasions and full lighting without experience seems like a lot of work for something that may get seen once a year. I'll see where I'm at after a few more deliveries as I have some other projects to finish. Will give me time to start building up a reference library and plan out which shapeways pieces i will use.

Subscribed (Thats me not getting anything done at work tomorrow).

Just had a look at Tonys stuff. I think what will help me decide what to replace is looking at the parts as they arrive each month, then seeing if i feel replacement or a decent paint job is the way to go, main hold floor is a must though.

But I really want the R2!

Could you post some pics, especially once they are primed?????

I'm dying to see what some of his stuff looks like other than the shapeways pics and after they are primed.

Thanks

Tom

Hey Tom, here are the primed parts from Shapeways photo.JPG

I'll probably wait until I have most of the pieces to do the painting. Might primer them or something before then, but until I have a section I can complete, I don't think I'll start on it. LrdSatyr8's thoughts about "planning" are good advice. And I want to make sure I know what's involved (meaning available space, fit, etc) before tackling something.

Once I get all the interior cockpit pieces I'll probably start on that. Already been thinking about it. The stickers are a major turn off for me. I'm going to try and build-up the existing pieces (versus going with Tony's beautiful pieces... though I might replace the existing passenger chairs with his). I'd like to add fiber optics to the cockpit, tied in to the existing LED board (which I don't have yet), as opposed to adding LEDs... this way everything's run on the Falcon power DeAgostini is providing (I'm SO not an electrical guy and don't understand about what can be soldered in to existing boards, and needing resistors and all that).

I'd like to have the glass for the windows (cockpit and turrets), IF it looks good. I know the studio Falcons don't have it... but using that logic, I wouldn't be doing the cockpit interior hardly at all either. The Full-Scale Set piece had glass and I'll probably be basing my Falcon on that where I can, as well as the 5-foot and 32-inch ones... kind of averaging everything together and whatever works/looks best, and makes the most sense, is what I'll do. I don't want to just do a straight repro of the 32-incher even if that's what this is based on. But that's just me (and that's what's cool about all this... all our Falcons will be completely different and individual works of art!). :)

Looking forward to 5-8.

Thank you Ken,

Dang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! those look sweet.

I have about $500 worth of Tony Deago and Hasbro Falcon parts in my Shapeways cart.

Now I just need $500.

Thanks again.

Tom

You are welcome my friend!!! glad I could help

I just ordered more from Tony's shop, here's an interesting story :-
I had removed the turret window, as it was placed wrongly and left it aside for cleaning and sanding
but, my dog decided that he was going to play with it first and well..... you can guess the rest !!!!!!!
I contacted DeAgo's and they were nice to send me a replacement, but, with wrong part :facepalm
So, I contacted Tony and he had spent his whole evening creating a turret window for me and in which I am so
grateful to him for doing this :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup Thank you Tony !!!!!

I wanted the R2 too, but after thinking of painting him, I abandoned that idea :lol

I put my Deago cockpit together (loose) and the entire Cockpit cone/tube. You can barely see anything in there. You need a flashlight to see the detail. I am still gonna get Tony's upgraded cockpit and then I can use the Standard Deago, modified of course, on the New Hasbro. I already test fitted it and it can work with some trimming.

Man,...this is gonna be good.

Glad to help Ken!!!

I slept a little less today but, what the hell!!! I love it!!! :lol

I just received my first 4 issues.:D I'm impressed with the detail and the internal frame work. This is going to be a heavy model! The panel/hull color looks good. As is explained in the books and is obvious, this kit is going to need A LOT of further weathering and detailing to match the filming miniature.Which is a GOOD thing IMO. It's almost a blank canvas. One has the option with how far they want to take it.For the price, much more bang for your buck than the MR as far as options/lighting and of having the satisfaction of building it yourself.

I've ordered as well. Removing the molded detail and replacing with original kit parts. Dimensions so far look great and match the donor kits. It's not perfect but I'm happy with what I've received so far.

I received invoice Saturday and I received my second month today, that was fast :)
Now just got to wait for Shapeways stuff and I can start more work

What do you mean by original parts? Are you saying you have original detail parts used on the original and you are removing those represented on the DeAgostini parts?

Also, for others, this makes me wonder. How much of this will be like the FM kit where a lot of detail is molded separately? I'm thinking of the engine deck, for example. I don't think it's supposed to require glue, which makes it hard to have a bunch of other parts, but some parts are molded separately and glued on before shipping (e.g. the curcular turret piece in one of the first four issues).

Thanks,
Mike Todd

No, a lot of pieces do require glue and there are a lot of add-ons. From the photos releases at Celebration the back deck looks real good. You can tell many of the pieces are add-ons.
