Deadpool (Post-release)

This movie was sooo awesome. Didn't dissapoint in any way. Couldn't have been any happier with it. I don't remember the last time I laughed so much in a movie. They captured the character perfectly. Well done Ryan. :)

If you are on the fence about seeing this, go see it. Its the funniest movie since The Hangover.....but way gooder.

Another excellent post by James Gunn in regards to the success of Deadpool and what is the lesson to be learned.

" "The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves."

That's a quote from Deadline Hollywood, attributing it to a Hollywood "suit." I love Deadline and get a lot of my film business news from them. And I love Deadpool even more - the film is hilariously funny, has lots of heart, and is exactly what we need right now, taking true risks in spectacle film - but COME THE **** ON. That's no reason to rewrite history. This quote has to have been said by the dumbest ******* Hollywood exec in the history of dumb ******* Hollywood execs.

Let's ignore Guardians for a moment, a movie that survives from moment to moment building itself up and cutting itself down - God knows I'm biased about that one. But what do you think Favreau and Downey did in Iron Man? What the **** was Ant-Man??!

Come on, Deadline.

After every movie smashes records people here in Hollywood love to throw out the definitive reasons why the movie was a hit. I saw it happen with Guardians. It "wasn't afraid to be fun" or it "was colorful and funny" etc etc etc. And next thing I know I hear of a hundred film projects being set up "like Guardians," and I start seeing dozens of trailers exactly like the Guardians trailer with a big pop song and a bunch of quips. Ugh.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Deadpool wasn't that. Deadpool was its own thing. THAT'S what people are reacting to. It's original, it's damn good, it was made with love by the filmmakers, and it wasn't afraid to take risks.

For the theatrical experience to survive, spectacle films need to expand their definition of what they can be. They need to be unique and true voices of the filmmakers behind them. They can't just be copying what came before them.

So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you'll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They'll be green lighting films "like Deadpool" - but, by that, they won't mean "good and original" but "a raunchy superhero film" or "it breaks the fourth wall." They'll treat you like you're stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn't do.

But hopefully in the midst of all this there will be a studio or two that will take the right lesson from this - like Fox did with Guardians by green-lighting Deadpool - and say - "Boy, maybe we can give them something they don't already have."

And that's who is going to succeed.

Have a great day. "

Made with love seems to be the key.

But also, I noticed something as a non dead pool fan. Not that I didn't like him, but that I just didn't know anything about him. I'm not a big comic book guy, never read one so I knew nothing about the character other than: real trendy online, seen as not very commercial by film execs.

So I was shocked by two things: it wasn't pretentious, which was surprising for online trendy. It was fun in a way that invited me to be part of the fun.

And two: it was actually commercial as hell. I'm already hearing that it's making big money opening weekend, but that actually means nothing about the movie, that just means good hype. But after seeing it, it's fair to say that the money train is going to continue for a little while. Movie, toys... This one is going to make a big huge smelly pile of cash before all is said and done.

Which makes a lot of people who said it wasn't as commercially viable look really stupid right now.

It also means that if they want them, the sequel will definitely be able to afford more X-Men at the mansion (and probably joke about it).

Anyway.. I liked it. And it's fun to go back now and look at things that were said two years ago.

Edit: one fun sticky point is that R rating or not, this character will be hugely popular with kids. At least over 12.

Deadpool is a great movie, even in German its very funny but of course I want to see it in English aswell. Every little Easteregg is awesome(like the little Deadpool Action Figure form the Movie Wolverine way of the warrior)

I´m looking forward for the second film and I hope that it will be as good as the first one or even better(i know its hard for a sequel to be as good as the first movie). There will be Cable in the second one so this is better be good.:D

Was 30 minutes or so into the film (Colossus intervened and Francis escaped) and the freakin' power went out in the theater (heavy rain storm)! Waited another half and hour and got a refund. ARGH!!!

What I saw was quite enjoyable. Laughed my butt off.

I know I'm with the minority, but I didn't really care much for the movie. I know....

I was hoping for a Deadpool movie and got delivered a Waypool movie. I wasn't that jazzed about it. It wasn't terrible but it's not really the version of the character I like or enjoy.

Can we talk about the FREAKIN HELICARRIER!?!?
Was that just supposed to go unnoticed ?

I noticed and they had plenty of nice shots at all the of multi-studio-verse that these characters live in.

The pamphlet was made before the box office weekend of Deadpool. And though Deadpool's earnings will supplement their decision, the choice to go with R rating for the new Wolverine was already in motion before the numbers came in. If Deadpool was a bomb, they indeed might have backtracked on that rating.

Also I am glad if Deadpool's box office will lead to studios greenlighting more R-rated comic/superhero movies. But many online are making it sound like Deadpool just started this trend. Yes, his movie turned out to be the most successful one, but there have been plenty comic inspired R-rated movies before him, they just weren't all box office hits.

Darkman, Spawn, Blade, The Punisher, 300, Punisher: War Zone, Watchmen, Kick-Ass, Super, Kingsman and others.

Was watching Deadpool with some friends in original english language (I wasn't fond of the dubbed trailer), and we laughed our ass off. The tempo was ideal, there was no blink and miss, every gag was placed right and I even got the Bob inside joke (read a couple of Deadpool comics already)! I'm looking foward to Deadpool 2!

Found it mediocre. Good first act but it went nowhere after that. Liked DP, the girlfriend, and bartender buddy, but all the other characters were cardboard. The villain and the Xs were boring. Absolutely some good one-liners, but I need more than that. It was fun to sit through once.

I feel the same way. I won't be seeing it a second time in theaters. Some stuff just didn't make sense. If Deadpool takes place among the X men, why mention Stewart and Macavoy by name? That took me out of it along with the Hugh Jackman jokes. Yeah the movie had some really funny moments but I was confused if this was supposed to be part of the cinematic Xmen universe or just a spoof. I was hoping I would like it a lot more than I did. The end credit scene was really funny though.

Funny and unexpected thing did happen. As we were about to enter the cinema, Hugh Jackman was outside for a premiere for his new movie. Ironic eh? Here he is! What a cool surprise for my wife and I.

The character of Deadpool is aware that he's a fictional character and that he's in a movie/comic/video game, whatever. Breaking the fourth wall and being aware of other media (in the comics, he references the fact that Xavier "looks like Captain Picard" on multiple occasions) is an established part of his character.

Saw it today, really enjoyed it. If anything, my only criticism would be that they played it a bit too safe. Just from a filmmaking perspective, they were limited by their budget (DP even mentions it in the film) and the overall story didn't really do anything unusual. I think they could have cranked the character all the way to 11, though... Deadpool can get a lot more zany than we saw here. Hopefully they'll do more of that in the sequel.

Kids won't be seeing it any time soon, though.. lol.
