Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I was thinking, and yes i agree it seems very impractical for a costume to eject parts off of it, however the only reason i would want them detatchable is becase of the details UNDERNEATH the detachable parts. Because if someone decides to motorize their costume (like the forearm, thigh, and shoulder missles and the back and chest thrusters) it would be great to see the movie accurate details underneath the moving parts. So for me, i wouldnt necessarily detatch those pieces off my costume, i would just love the extra detail underneath the motorized parts.

Yes, this is a different story, I would also agree having the details under the flaps is important as well as having a base under the rocket pods on the forearms. Now I think that for the upper back you should see something else when the upper flaps open. I don't think that you will see the 'under back' ... you should see the inside of the jet pack pods and the exhaust port for the after burner.

Mike,
I found a video that could help you to resolve the helmet fit problem.
The helmet is for the Mark VI of The avengers filming set, but it could work out with any versions, just take a look about the mininute 3.50

The Avengers - Raw B-Roll #1 (2012) HD - YouTube

Yes I have seen the B-Rolls and this is the method that is most commonly used for fitting the helmet on your head. However the CGI helmet is about the size of a human head and would not likely fit the majority of peoples heads as a helmet in proportion to the rest of the suit. I can't say for sure if I would have to scale up the helmet to make it fit because I have not built any other parts of the costume. All I know is that other people building these suits often have to build many of the part at different scales in order for them to fit their bodies. So it will not be unusual for some of us to have a larger helmet than others.

How would you scale this?

I think this video should answer your questions.

I'm using Finhead's mkiii sculpt casted by Jowe. It's smaller than the sharkhead. But not by whole lot.

I hope you don't mind me asking... How big/small are you? What is the circumference of your head? How does the helmet fit on you?

Thanks

Lol I don't mind, I'm 6'1" 175lbs skinny frame. My head is about 23 inches. Fin says it will fit up to 24 1/4 inch head. Mine fits perfectly just enough room for electronics and hinges. Although I may move my servos into the back or neck piece due to my hinge setup, but I'm not that far along still waiting on my hinges.:(

So, Darkside, with these new pics of all the details, what's the plan now?

Are you going to make a Version-2 suit, with all the added details from the new pics, or are you going to modify the current models, or not?

- Just wondering.

Thanks man... That would be cool. Please make sure you mention that the files that are posted now were developed before the movie came out and I will be revising them to be more accurate and releasing a version 2 at a later date.

I also posted an update on the opening post.

Damn, lol I've got. A deadline by the 28 of September! :banghead: so I'm going to go with version one. Since I have so much already done.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Are there any pieces you will for sure NOT be modifying?

That is a decision that I will have to make as I go through each part of the model so I couldn't say for sure. I imagine that I will end up tweaking pretty much everything. See what happens is that when you change one part then you will most likely have to change part of the other pieces that are adjacent to the part you changed. Every piece has to work together, especially for a traditional pep build. It is not so imperative on a foam build.

I can say that there are parts that wont matter quite so much. Like the boot for example... I will be making changes but the boot is something that most people won't be too concerned with. The changes are minor and most likely wont be affecting the other adjacent pieces. You could also build Zabana's hand files... I have no intention of changing those... well I might add a few things... Surreal Studios had a great idea about how to get your hand in and out of the palm so I might add some panels and supports to the file to make this idea easier... but really they are perfect and his idea could be implemented in the finishing stage. The helmet is not going to see much of a change and to be honest the only change is on the chin and can be accomplished in the finishing stage.

That's all I can say for sure right now.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Wish you could make them low def though. The lines and other details are a lot easier to dremel in than to pep.

just my 2 cents.

Well It might not be too difficult to send out a set of low def files along side the high detail files... I would need somebody to unfold them cause I wouldn't want to spend my time on low def files.

Where are you planning on restarting? Forearms again? Because I would like. New forearm with a proper looking handplate. Now that I see they are flush together.

I can do that. Just let me know when ready.

These look great :thumbsup, looking forward to your Version 2. Might have to tackle a Mark7 build after seeing it in action. :)

This time I think I am going to start from the core and work my way out... I think it will be easier to get the proportions and mechanics right without having to go back to rework a part I already did. I ran into that a couple times when I started at the extremities.

Cool, Thanks Clinton. I will keep you up to date on my progress. I would love to see your build on this. ;)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I have a question.. i m using a EVA foam mat that is 1cm thick , it's too much?It seems to hard to fold... How should it be?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

It should be fine, you don't fold the foam you cut and glue.
