Jeez, I don't want to come off sounding rude and it isn't just you but do you guys read the posts that are on the thread?!? I mean there have been several different members that have been posting the same pics and asking the same questions that I have already answered. Like I said I am not trying to be mean but this kind of stuff can get old and not just for me... anyone subscribed to this thread might not appreciate the redundancy.

Jackieisrockin, I am not unloading on you. I just want everyone to be more careful about their posts. I would like to keep this thread nice and tidy. ;)

I just posted the answer to your 2nd question in my previous post. The answer to your 1st question can be inferred from reading the last page or two of posts. I am in touch with Josh (the artist that made the Mk VII 3D model for the movie) and he is going over the less obvious details of the suit with me. I will start when I have finished my research. Hopefully it won't take too long... Josh has been very responsive to my communications so I don't think I will be waiting forever on him.

Just in case you guys missed it the first time I posted it... I have the ability to ask Josh questions about the suit. This could be anything from could he breathe in space/ why did his power fail? to what does his boot tread pattern look like? I had requested and gave you guys the opportunity to post some questions here that I would rank and pass on to Josh.

So far only one question has been posted. I will be contacting him again in the next day or two so if you guys can come up with any questions that would be great. It is possible that you might ask something that I did not think about.

So, thank you guys in advance for helping me to keep this thread nice and tidy. Post your questions and I will post the answers if I can.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

It is not a big deal I just wanted to give this thread a little nudge back in the right direction... I understand everyone is excited... me too! lol

This thread has really taken off since the premiere.

Anyways, you guys try not to take me too seriously... sometimes I can come across as being too harsh or mad in my posts or emails... it is just cause I am a serious person and get straight down to business. ;)

I am not angry about it or anything.

So really... nobody has any questions about the suit? I mean this guy was involved in talks about original concepts and ideas regarding what the suit will do in the movie. He had to design the model to do everything that they did in the movie and some things they may have wanted to do but got dropped toward the end of planning. He also said if he didn't know the answer he could ask one of his contacts that was even more involved in the planning/creation process than he was.

You guys should at least try to come up with one question to ask.

Would you ask if a full size 1:1 FULL costume was ever made?

He already answered that in one of his previous emails to me that I posted a couple pages back. The Mark VII was never made as a physical costume so the model might have to be adjusted in some places to be worn as a costume.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

hmmmm what about the OTHER arm and shoulder weapons? in the movie it only shows ONE arm missle go off and ONE set of shoulder missles go off but what about the other arm/shoulder weapons? are they they same kind of missles as the other side or something different that we didnt see

That's what I guessed, anyway a real helmet was made from the Mk. VII files.

See, that is a good question... I would have just assumed it was symmetrical but that might not be the case.

I can't remember... did both of his thighs open up or was that just one side too?

You must be talking about the efx prop... but since it was never made into a full suit who is to say that the scale is accurate or not. It is just one of those things.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

What I said is that a full costume was never made then, but a 1:1 scale helmet was made for sure.

Based on the 3d model the Rockets on his shoulders are flush with the shoulder pieces. My question is about the first gen files. How much taller if at all are the rocket pods compared to the shoulders?

I am not sure I understand your question... are you asking about the missile compartments on his shoulders? So, you want to know, since the jetpack/shoulders sits on top of the inner/under back, how tall the missile compartment is? What are you referring to when you say first gen files?

Lol my bad this phone is a pain to type out detailed questions on. I'm talking about the rocket pods on his shoulders. It's part of his booster pack.. By first gen files I mean version one of your files.
Here is a pic of what I mean.

darkside501 - I wish I had even a small % of your talent with 3d software. Thanks for making the files available.

I'd be interested to find out if he could slip us a rendering of the suit with all the flaps, and pods in the 'open' position. It would make some of those momentary on screen glimpses make more sense (at least to me).

If not; not.

Thanks

C

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Hey Darkside, could you take a Wire frame screen shot of the model in maya or max or modo(whatever you are using) 3d student here, and I love looking at wires of other artists. It helps me figure out edge flow on my own models.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

how hard is it to convert these into manifold stl files

That is actually a really good question to present. Let's hope it's something he not only could, but would be willing to share.

Oh ok, I get it now. I think what you are seeing is mostly from the angle of the camera. Take a look at these pictures:
https://capvyg.bay.livefilestore.co...222UZF4Q3ymD8RrHGOVvhiUD/559_large.jpg?psid=1
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=21209EBD4D8A434F#cid=21209EBD4D8A434F&id=21209EBD4D8A434F!320
If you save them to your computer and use the picture viewer and flip back and forth you can see it is like the parts get ejected from his suit. The missile compartment is not that tall. and the shoulder bells are definitely lower than the missile compartment part of the jetpack.

Well, thank you very much. That is an awesome question and it was one of the first ones I wrote down on my list. ;) Great minds think alike, lol. Anyways, I also am going to ask about the inner back (the one under the jetpack and lower flaps. It looks like it might also have 'secondary flaps'.

I am not sure if he will be willing to share more pictures with me and even if he does he might not want me to share them with anyone else. We shall see. I have a short list.

If you are a student then you probably don't want to study mine. lol I would be surprised if I am doing things the same way they teach in schools. Plus I am not out to make a movie quality model here. It will be a low poly count model to make the pepping easier but high detail (for panel lines, etc.). So you probably want to look for someone that does this as more than just a hobby. :D

What are manifold stl files? What purpose would that serve?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Darkside, is IronLeoMan still unfolding the last back that you made, in the 1st post?

Or did he stop because you're going to make a new one?
