Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

ok there are connection pics of darksides lower forearm and hand plate. other one is original ironmans forearm and handplate connections picture. so if you are still working on mark 7 V2 please edit them like this one if i have little bit 3d talents i'll do it my self and post but ican't do it

I jut used my imagination and creativity.

I printed 2 different size handplates, one 10-15% more so than the other. I measured the groove on the lower forearm and printed the handplate where the wrist piece matches pretty close.

The part that sits on the back of your hand I printed out a little larger and just tweaked the connection point.

It's not the only piece I've tweaked either.

All I'm saying is just be creative with it. No rules.

That is why they are here. Free for everyone to download and build their own Mk VII. Check the links and info in the first post.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

Start with a simple part like the shoulder bells or a small part like the handplate. Don't start with the hardest part.

I can vouch for this. I just started this project last week and my first set of shoulders are, let's just say, sloppy. But they were my first pieces ever, so I'm giving myself some room to learn. I've already decided to combine some pieces and bend with heat and back cuts to reduce seams. Of course, I still haven't perfected that style yet, but it's looking better. I don't have a process to fill in seams nicely before painting the foam. Glue does some and maybe a resin coat with primer but I'm not that far along yet. And man, these blades get dull FAST. I relish the first 5 cuts with a new blade, and try my hardest not to waste that precious sharpness.

The most tedious thing for me has been scaling correctly. I still don't have a feel for how big things should be per part. I am spending a lot of time on the reference pics and then re-measuring my arms, legs, etc...

It's important because it's massive double work to reprint, recut, retrace and recut the foam. Most of the tutorials make it look easy, but it takes practice to get there. These files aren't instructions, so much as they are fairly awesome guidelines. This project would be nearly impossible for me without all the hard work posted to this site, so thanks to everyone (especially Darkside501st since I am cutting my teeth on these Mark VII foam files).

Curious...Were the files developed with a default scale to fit a certain height/weight? Sorry if this was asked earlier, I am still digging through all the new posts. This thread is getting huge.

Yes, I set the default scale for a person of my stature. So scale 23 will fit someone who is between 5'5" to 5'8" but everyone is different and even I might have to rescale some pieces to fit my body.

This is awesome what is the best kind of foam to use when trying to build your own Mark VII suit, and where do you get it? I have never built a costume before.

I have been trying for 2 days straight to cut out this with my Craftrobo. has anyone else had any difficulties. The registration marks are not working out with the machine.

In those 2 days straight.
You could have probably cut out all the templates for the whole suit by now.

don't mind me, I'm just messing with you man.

I was going to say the same thing, but I feel your pain my friend!
Sissors, knives and glue, still an unbeatable trio!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

Can someone give me an idea for scaling? Im thinking I should build the tightest pieces first so I'm working with the abs. Unfortunately I got a little extra around the middle and I'm wondering if scaling up the abs will throw off the rest of the suit. How tall is the suit (typically) in the default scale(23). I'm 5'9" with 36" waist if anyone similar build can share some wisdom. I will continue to tinker and rebuild otherwise.

Hi, I just completed the chest for my Mk VII but now I'm working on the back, from where to where should I measure myself on my back to get the resizing done at?

I'm in the exact same situation (even height and waist size :lol ) . So if anyone can answer that, i too would be greatful. I almost started the abs but i've decided to wait for the v2. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Exciiiiiiiiiiiiiited :D
