Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Damn...those thighs give me nightmares...The second I throw away. I can't align the pieces correctly, the grooves mess up everything, I'm too short on a side and too long on the other side. I stop for today, too pissed to do anything good anyway.

If you use enough clips you'll be fine... just make sure you don't brush too strongly! ;)

It's been awhile since I've posted here, but I haven't really had the chance to work on anything, so yeah. Anyway, I have a stupid question:

Are we still doing the brace thing under the chest and back armor? And if so, how are we supposed to measure it?

I probably loads more questions, but I don't have time to list them all right now. I figure I'll get there eventually.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Not a stupid question :)

Yes, we're still doing the brace and it's the same scale as the chest and back.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - New Pics pg 100!!

Just completed the helmet, i used the tabless method and it really is much much smoother already! I think it's worth it because even if it takes longer to pep, is going to save a lot of time in the filling/sanding stage!

I also decided to make the "teeth" out of cardboard

Anyway here's the pics

Going to fiberglass it now

Thanks again Darkside!

much cleaner than mine!

I still have to join the three parts of the helmet, but I plan to leave it without ears until the bondo part.

So, is this the best way to built the helmet?:
  1. Glue all the pieces of the helmet (except the ears, so you can apply fiberglass to them in the inside)
  2. Apply the resin on the outside
  3. Apply resin and fiberglass in the inside
  4. Sand
  5. Glue the ears
  6. Apply bondo on the outside
  7. Sand
  8. Cut again the three pieces of the helmet
  9. Sand
  10. Correct this cuts with bondo so they are clean and nice
  11. Sand
  12. Apply the primer
  13. Sand
  14. Paint

Is this right? or have I missed something??

Thanks!

EDIT: I also plan to put a strap of paper (folded in a "V" shape) on the inside of the helmet, following the black line where later you have to cut a groove with the dremel, so the fiberglass won't be cut... I don't know if I'm explaining myself, but I will put some pictures later :D

Yours looks good too... you just have to clip the separate parts together. You have the right idea with the process but you have to insert a whole lot more of the 'Apply Bondo' and 'Sand' steps. lol

I wouldn't bother with the cardstock folded in a v shape. You have the right idea though. I would just lay down a couple extra layers of fiberglass cloth cut into strips along the line. Once you build up the bondo you will barely go through the cardstock anyways.

The tabless method was discussed in this thread some pages ago, and Dakside as a video explaining it very well on his youtube, however basically it means the you don't use the tabs from the pepakura model (just don't cut them and instead cut on the folding lines) and then connectthe parts using a strip of cardstock applied behind the two pieces. It is very useful when dealing with smooth surfaces like in the faceplate for example or any other part where the two faces you are connecting are basically standing on an almost flat plane. When dealing with sharp corners is instead not very much of any help so you need to decide before cutting which faces you are doing with this method and which won't. And i was using standard 200 gsm paper :)

BTW soon after i finished resining and it was beginning to cure, it started raining point blank, temperature dropped a lot and so i'm afraid i won't cure fully....Unlucky as always!

Here's my progress on the helmet. :) My first full helmet. Well, almost full it just needs paint and some modifications to make it wearable. Sorry, the lighting's bad in this pic.

This was very well explained. You have the theory down for sure.

Pretty good so far. Do you plan on cleaning it up some more? I know it is a lot of work.

Can you give the link for the video ? :D

Yes, and also the link for my YouTube channel is in my signature as well as a link to a 'Table of Contents' of sort for all my major threads.

Yeah, I will repeat the sanding until my hands bleed! :lol:lol

but why do you say to clip the parts? isn't it better to just glue them all? They will stick together anyways with the resin... or maybe is just my bad English and I didn't understand you well... :unsure

And many thanks for the tips!!
