Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build
So after the 'Final' sand and paint I noticed a slight imperfection on the visor, so it was another round of filling, sanding and painting
After this was rectified, a couple of nice coats of primer and it was on to the final wet sand. Started with a 400 grit, then gradually worked up to a 1200 to get it super super smooth and shiney.
I was then ready for the silicone. I set up a work space with everything i needed to hand, release wax, silicone, thickner, thinner, tongue depressors, cups. Cover my table and floor around it cause thing were about to get messy.
Firstly coated the primed lid with couple of thin layer of Ease Release 200, then it was on to the silicone.
The first layer was thinned down using the thinners, then i applyed a couple of layer over the whole lid.
For registration keys i ended up using silicone mini cupcake trays that i got from the £1 store.
Once i had a good coating of silicone over the whole lid I started to place the reg keys and held them in place with thickened silicone. you also notice that i used thickened silicone to fill in around the ear cones.
Another layer of silicone and it was good to go.
**HINDSIGHT MOMENT*** I really should have waited until i had applied all the silicone on the lid before placing the reg keys, you'll see later on that there was some slight bubbling where they were placed, not the worst thing in the world to happen as the keys were on the visor mostly, which will be removed. Still a bit of a dissapointment.
