Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron / R.A.M. Build

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Really nice work. I am interested in how you plan on making your visor form. I have pulled well over a hundred Guy-Man visors at this point. So I may be able to give you some tips if you run into trouble.

You are very lucky. When I dropped one like that it stuck right into my calf.

I will have to take you up on that offer. :thumbsup
Haven't given it as much thought as i should have at this point. With the 2 visors from the different versions set differently in the lids ( from the inside and on the outside ) they'll obviously have to be tackled differently.
I'll probably use the visor cut outs from the pulls and build them up.

I'll get in touch with you one i've got throught the molding and casting stage if you would mind.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Still got to finish the filleted edge on the back panel, but all in all i think its looking rather good?

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Quite happy with were the build is just now, but I've had to take a step back on all the builds before i commit to the molding and casting. Magnifying glass and fine tooth comb out again!

Square chin? check. but the visor need to be a bit more squared towards the bottom.

After spending time getting the joint of the ear pieces to the main body perfect, i've now realised it looks rubbish! This seem needs to meet something??

There needs to be a sharp angle, gving a clearly defined line around the ear pieces.

You can see it here clearly

And the rear panel need to be finished with a nice even fillet fill.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Your improvements have gone a long way! This is shaping up to look phenomenal! For the ears, could you make the crease where the ear meets the helmet sharper? I feel like that will help the ear visually "pop" off the helmet more

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

This helmet is looking great!

I think you've addressed most of the areas that could use refining.

Now I am not too sure about this, but I think there might be soft or rounded edge on the recessed back panel/bald spot area. I'll let you decide.

And also, here are some photos I am not sure if you've seen or not that might be helpful.

Thanks again for your help. I had noticed this, but wasn't sure if i was going to do it. All the other lines on the lid are so crisp and clean, i was unsure how it would look, but these pics are great, definately seems rounded. I'll wait until i get the fillet in place and then go from there, but i think your on to a winner. Thanks again.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Wow, I cannot believe its been almost a month since i've updated.

Had a few major setbacks recently, had to leave my workshop earlier than expected, had a few hiccups at my dayjob, and to top it all off i got ill! But i'm back to on the case now, i've cleared my schedule and expecting to have this lid ready for moulding and casting by the weekend.

I'll update the few things ive done over the last few weeks tomorrow, but heres a teaser. if your impatient, check out my Flickr

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

wow lookin real good man. makes me want to abandon my own build! nah just kidding. it's much too fun working on it, don't you agree? though sometimes i think everyone experiences a bit of a burnout.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

Soooo,

The rear panel needed a bit of work, getting the curved edge just right. Some bondo and a homemade tool got it looking pretty decent really quick

The next task was to remove that super smooth seam between the ear pieces and the main body of the lid.
*Captain Hindsight moment - if your going to spend hours getting something perfect, make sure its exactly what your looking for! *

I literally had to chisel away the filler from around the ear pieces, wasn't very happy having spent so long getting smooth and rounded.

But with a bit of love ( and lots of filling and sanding ) the connection between the ears pieces and the main body has a clear defined line, with a nice sharp angle which really makes them pop.

Re: Daft Punk - Guy Manuel Tron Build

I wasn't very happy with the lower back panel. The way i had it, both the sunken panel and the raised surrounds end abruptly together, but i didn't think it looked very good. With the other Guy build, this section has a very distinct finish, but this was looking a bit cheap?

A bit or research and i had my solution, you can see here that the sunken panel comes down alot lower than the surrounds, and folds under.

5mm shaped material covered in a layer of bondo should give the desired effect.

While i was working on this i noticed that bottom of the raised areas were very square, almost a straight line away from the bottom of the ear pieces. A quick build up of filler sorted this out pretty quickly.
