D.C.'s Supergirl (tv series)

solitude was another nice episode.

THe new Fortress is awesome, with it's own robot. it's amazing how far effects have come since the days of smallville. you can basically make a live action animated cartoon.
The music is also pumping itself up a notch. my speakers where banging with cool.

Groan factor for the night...
So, we now hav a female bizzaro and a female Braniac? I don't know if this planet of super computers is a new 52 thing or just for the show thing... but insta groan. also fail on the design that she looked like mystique. first thought I had anyway.

It's odd with this show. I like the actors. even cat I think does a good job. but just somethings this show throws at you takes you out of the world instantly.

The real world references they keep doing, I hope they stop that at some point. Usually it's Cat. I think they have had one too many psycho military guys too. I hope it's not a repeating pattern.

Actually she's an established DC character... and her appearance is more or less close to how she's portrayed in the comic books...

What kinda bugged me though was having Max create red Kryptonite as opposed to having it pre-existing...

The creation of alternate forms of Kryptonite through experimentation has also been a longstanding tradition.

True... I guess what I didn't like about it was that it meant that Superman hasn't encountered red kryptonite yet, meaning that in all the time that he's been active, which is supposedly awhile before Kara became Supergirl, that no one else has tried this route; i.e. Luthor...

thanks for that. I guess that was their attempt to update the braniac character for this day and age, so he's not just a man looking for a decent pair of pants.
....

......
.....

someone will get it ;o).

Actually, I think this whole episode was just a tribute to superman three, where they tried to create kryptonite.

Speaking of Lex....

We havn't seen him yet in this universe setup on tv, have we?

Someone NEEDS to get Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor in live action for a change. Hell, we practically have Mark Hamil playing a live action joker (er, Trickster), why not Bring in Clancy? He's the ONLY person who ever should play lex luthor. Not an awkward 5'5" twig with a beatles haircut ;o).

Overall, this week's episode was pretty good, but there were two big problems that I had with it.

1. The thing with Lucy being all gung-ho to lock everyone the f--- up, and then suddenly saying "Wait, no, I changed my mind," essentially because Kara convinced her she was just bowing to peer pressure? What the hell was that?!

2. Project Cadmus. Ok, so, I get that it's the Supergirl Guantanamo. With respect to aliens, ok, it's nasty, but at least it kind of makes legal sense. With respect to American citizens, though, WHAT THE HELL!?!?! Alex is under arrest because (a) she beats the lie detector, (b) Lucy says "Wait, I know she's lying. Arrest her!", and now (c) we're going to take her to a black site to turn her into a human guinea pig? What the everloving crap is this?! To me, that's just taking it way, way too far. I'll suspend my disbelief for aliens who can punch through buildings and shoot lasers from their eyes. I will NOT suspend my disbelief that the U.S. military would be permitted to do this or even that soldiers would basically be TOTALLY FINE with locking people up on a whim to be mutated with weaponized alien DNA. That's just stupid.

maybe area 51 is good military, and cadmus is bad off the record rouge military?

shrug..

the other thing I noticed...

notice how only the women deo members have dialouge? We havn't seen a supporting male character yet other than hank, and now that he's gone, I guess the women are in charge.....because....girl power show?

All it's missing in some cases is paul feig.

I dont' actually care whether there are male DEO characters other than Hank. We have Wynn and James to balance out the male aspect of the show. You basically have four female principles (Kara, Cat, Lucy, and Alex), and three male principles (Hank, Wynn, and James). I'm totally cool with that. I'm not looking at the show as a numbers game for representation really, at least not male representation. I'm looking at the show for good storytelling, which -- for the most part -- it does.

My main issue with THIS week's episode was that the sequence involving the interrogation and the "extraordinary rendition" of Alex and Hank was NOT good storytelling.

normally I don't, either.. but with all these social justice speeches from kat.....maybe i'm more pre determined to notice..

maybe cadmus is like the Deep Space Nine secret organization. doing stuff the regular nation hasn't got the guts to do.

In Young Justice, all they really did was focus on genetic research and cloning using aliens. nothing involving humans.

I have to say watching Cat thrown off the building was remarkably pleasant.

If any a character deserved it ;o)..

Wasn't supergirl reported renewed already? FB now claims it isn't.

won't realy be sorry to see it go as it IS.

If they fixed a few things...it could be as good as the flash. which is sad.

FirstTV show i've watched live in almost ten years...I can't even remember the last time.

Anyone catch the superman music theme included in that last little musical note in the last shot.... du du du duuuuuuuuu du duuuuu....

I won't spoil anything else until other people get the chance to watch it.
BUT... it's SO NICE to see super heroes ENJOYING BEING A HERO!

Suck it smallville.

Ha thanks for that. I also almost never watch live anymore, will probably see this tomorrow.

I do like this show. It started rough, but the cast has really grown on me week by week. Now I even look forward to it.

reading some of the online reactions....seems alot of people are on the bubble with this show, just like some here are..

odd thing is, some of the backlogged episodes Iv'e seen in the last two weeks where decent enough.

We basically got some live action versions of JLA episodes with the alien flower that gives you sweet dreams and now worlds finest.

If this show could just drop the girl power and social justice moments, and concentrate on the super hero stuff, it can be just as good as I find the flash.

I could have done with a little more Barry, Silver Banshee's costume was dodgy, and winning over the city didn't feel quite earned to me but overall that was fun. Barry's certainly a natural fit on the show and has fantastic chemistry with Kara. Certainly the best superhero team-up I've seen in the past week.

That said, it's a little concerning that the best episodes of Supergirl have involved her influenced by Red K, heavily featured Martian Manhunter, and then guest-starred the Flash. I wish the show would be better when there wasn't a gimmick going on, but hopefully this uptick will maintain.
