D.C.'s Gotham tv series

I enjoyed her character in the same way I enjoy Snart in the flash - but they gave her a very weak plot as a main character. Captain Cold is a side character with a pretty normal/decent plot. So that works where Fish didnt.

To be fair - normal gangsters and such will always pale in comparison to the colourful and fairly wacky villains that are populating Gotham now.

I'm not a big Ben McKenzie fan. In fact I very nearly skipped the show because he was the star. Donal Logue I'm a fan of though, so I watched. And I'm glad I did. I like the show a lot. I like that they added Chiklis to the show. I watched every episode of The Shield.

McKenzie plays Gordon almost entirely as "generic go-gooder cop" with a few moments here and there that I think are more interesting than generic. They make the show work around his cardboard interpretation, and most of the time I'm not put off by his acting. :)

I especially like the look of the show. I'm ecstatic that they shoot in NYC, where anything set in Gotham should be filmed. In Gotham.

I had to laugh though when Batman V. Superman had a commercial in the middle of the show. Visually speaking, the worlds fit together pretty well.

I know. I know. ;)

I watched the first couple episodes - through Balloon-man, I believe - when it first debuted and stopped watching. Maybe I was stuck in a "Batman purist" mindset, having read the comics for the past 26 years, but I couldn't do it. I enjoyed Robin Lord Taylor; that was about it. With that said, my wife watched the series once it was released on Netflix - and I reluctantly started watching it with her... and I did watch the first season in its entirety. It became a bit of a guilty pleasure once I let go of what I wanted to see and simply enjoyed what I was given. I don't know that I settled... I've always loved Batman's villains - the Penguin and Riddler, especially - and, well, I got a good taste of 'em.

I think this is my first visit to this thread, as I don't watch the show. Don't know why, just don't, so I do not judge the show one way or the other.

I was just wondering, which DC universe does it take place in? Burton? Nolan? Bats vs Supes? Supergirl? Flash and Arrow? Or none at all?

Yeah I think he's doing a great job and fits in the with the hammy theme nicely.

I dont quite like the final look of Fries. The actor wasnt quite the best unfortunately, but if they'd just ONLY gone for the bright blue eyes/cold skin, that would be fine for the explanation of him surviving at -20. However they just shouldnt have gone with the blond hair in my opinion. They should have either gone for shaved (plausible in terms of its a hospital etc) I think it would have looked fine, and the blue eyes would work with that. Dont like the blond.

Enjoyable ep.

Great episode. Really felt David Mazouz smashed it to pieces with that confrontation. I genuinely believed that is how Bruce Wayne as a young lad would react to that situation. Not with violence, and not with helplessness. Choosing, in one moment, to define himself as a better man than the person who murdered his parents and almost couldnt remember them. So, so perfect. Perfect.

Not quite sold on Ed turning against Gordon so quickly but it does make sense story wise. And I love that he has started using the riddles more - he does embody the character really well. I just dont want them to go too far with the comedy etc. I want to feel like he is a genuinely dangerous person. The question mark at the end was excellent.

Penguin - I was really, really hoping we would see Penguin leave the asylum, and find out his strength of character is so high that he just endured all of that to convince them all. But turns out he's been "Butch'd"? Not too keen on that.

Hugo Strange is bloody brilliant.

it's weird...i always thought the penguin looked like peewee ....then peewee shows up to play his dad!

Just as he did in Batman Returns. Yes, Paul Reubens has now played Oswald Cobblepott's father in 2 incarnations. Bravo to Gotham for doing this.

I must admit, my family used to be great friends with, and visit, the people who owned the castle used for the exterior shot at the Cobblepot estate. I feel ok saying so, as they have apparently sold the estate. Sadly, we had lost touch.

my bet is the person who ordered the hit one the Wayne's is Hugo Strange. Thomas Wayne had probably found out about the Indian Hill stuff Strange was running

It also looks like Galavan is back next episode (or at least his body)

Can't say that was the best episode. However, if we take just some moments alone...

SPOILERS

Nygma. Just as he truly shows us he is ahead of the game, he snaps and gets caught? I know it was "needed" for Gordon to be cleared. But come on. I do love seeing his fractured psyche, and the riddle delivery is awesome. The guy playing the part does an awesome job. I hope we continue with his story.

Penguin - I really liked that they hadnt immediately made him go dark again....and very suddenly, he goes Hannibal on that family. I understand what happened. But it was poorly done. Killing people, no problems. Brutally? No problems. Feeding someone their own children? Not too far, just out of character. Penguin has always been about ego, and wealth, and station. I don't see that here in these moments.

Gordon... par for the course. Just normal. I dont hate his story, but I dont love it either.

Barbara - I wish she'd have just died or stayed in the coma. I hate her character. useless. Being released from Arkham. Ridiculous.

Hugo Strange...I appreciate that they are putting across that he is simply curious about everything. But Im not buying it now. He needs a stronger overall arc.

Bruce - excellent with what little time he had, same with Selina. I do like that he is already trying to understand his city, he is driven to do the right thing, but also gets a rush out of the risk. He's starting to harden up and become that man we all know. Really builds up that foundation of affection mixed with conflict of personalities with selina. I love that Alfred really hits these messages home to bruce now with a fathers care but a friends brutal words. Great stuff here. Alfred was a bit harsh on Gordon though. Starting up for all intents and purposes the Bat computer !! Him and Alfred together at a bank of screens in a secret room and then hearing the "System Enabled" is brilliant world building. Felt like a classic moment of Batmans past.

OK. Taking a few minor decisions and such within the show that make me shake my head, to stay sane and allow enjoyment of this show - what a brilliant episode! I think Gotham is finally finding it's feet - it is somehow dramatic, but corny, and dangerous, yet light hearted in some ways. This latest episode was excellent in almost all respects in my eyes - nods to the future without really short changing any characters, almost no annoying characters (just stay away barbara, barnes, poison ivy, tabitha wasnt used too much etc), yet most plot points moved forward at a good pace.

Really enjoyable as exactly what it is supposed to be, which isnt a high brow drama, isnt a mindless superhero show - it's Gotham brought to the small screen in a semi grounded way.

Even if I just list what worked in this episode, it's ridiculous that they are even pulling this off at all.

Bruce Wayne (being smart, resourceful and conflicted yet earnest), Alfred (being protective but supportive), Jim Gordon (being one minded and useful - almost didn't work but ill allow it), Selina Kyle (being ridiculously resourceful, skilled and sneaking!), Hugo Strange (being delightfully pragmatic and defensive), The Riddler (being at once smarter than everyone and yet not quite smart enough due to terror), Penguin (being determined and cocky, and looking fantastic), Azrael (being larger than life yet working in the narrative quite well), KILLER CROC (brief cameo, excellent easter egg), Firefly (sounding quite fireflylike with a really cool new suit). And of course Butch. Good old Butch. And rock music. And slow motion. And flames.

haha. It was just good fun based in Gotham.

Great episode. They are really beginning to world build an amazingly comic book Gotham that I truly can see Batman inhabiting one day. The storyline was great if simple, the characters are absolutely settled into their grooves and developing brilliantly. Seeing Bruce looking eye to eye with most of the adults now, and they've truly lost that kid vibe, is perfect. It is genuinely a young Bruce Wayne, excellently portrayed. Selina Kyle is much better than earlier seasons. This show is bloody brilliant this year. It's like watching a comic book come to life. For anyone that was put off by this show but thought it had promise, check it out again, you'll be surprised.

Kind of a weird vibe between Penguin and Nygma.

I thought for a second last night they were going to blurt out I love you and start kissing or something in that one scene...or was it just me :lol
