I know, it's like these studios are looking to make money or something and have board members, investors, & stock holders pushing these studio to turn ever increasingly more profit. It's so weird that these studios looking to make a profit would look to an IP with name recognition that makes them think it might be successful for them. I mean, why wouldn't they spend tons of money on creating something based on an obscure IP with only a fraction of the name recognition of LotR and risk having a huge flop on their hands because of it.Nothing births a remake like a lack of original ideas and an unquenchable thirst for money.
In other news something fresh popped up on my radar this morning..I know, it's like these studios are looking to make money or something and have board members, investors, & stock holders pushing these studio to turn ever increasingly more profit. Watched S2 E1 and it was okay but was kind of bored and found myself not caring. When I saw there were two more available already, instead being excited, I found myself reacting like it would be a chore to watch two more until another comes next week. Then I realized that that was a sign I'm not into it and should probably just write it off. Although I do like Thorin and his wife and the thumbnail indicates they're in E2, so I might give it one last shot.
The tone seems to want us to have some empathy for Sauron at times. No, man. No.
Also the metal smith elf looks so much like Michael Palin it takes me out of the story every time I see him.
Tolkien struggled with this in his later years, since, as they were living beings, they could not be WHOLLY irredeemable, especially given T's theology. He even toyed with the idea they were actually descended from men, thus "apt to evil" , then switched back to elves as their source, but he never came up with a good solution. But he did firmly state, yes, orcs "had life and multiplied after the manner of the Children of Ilúvatar" i.e. had children, families and clans.I saw a clip where an orc has this sad moment of saying goodbye to his orc wife and orc baby before going off to war. What? Orcs are wholly evil as described by Tolkien. Now we're supposed to have sympathy for them? If people still don't realize the people behind this show don't know what the heck they're doing, I don't know what else to say.
It's close to being the worst TV series I've ever seen. It is dull and poorly written, and the writers don't understand what made Tolkien's work so important. Shame. I wanted it to succeed.I didn't even finish the first episode. It was everything I hoped it would not be.

I have a feeling that when Sauron makes the One Ring, the orcs will be enslaved completely to his will.
