Cyberman in FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Hi Scouser! I used wondersquid's patterns. I'm really short though (5 feet tall) so it took a lot of resizing/free handing some pieces when I couldn't quite get the resizing done for one reason or another.

The helmet is about the only thing I didn't resize although I probably should have, I just wanted to make sure I had a lot of breathing room in it.

Hope that helps!

Hey Obiwanamati! I saw you at Galley, great job. I love how you are all taking the patterns and making them your own. As to classic Cybermen, did you see the Tenth Planet I worked on for Gallifrey this year?

EDIT: here is a pic from one of my friends at Gally.

First of all...Thank you Thank you Thank you for the patters and detailed description! I sent in a donation, printed the plans out, and started building yesterday. I have a quick question for you. I can't figure out where the pieces named "Cyberman head Underbrow" or "Cyberman Head Cheek" are supposed to go. I have everything else on the head figured out.
Do you have any pictures of the inside or a view from the bottom you could post up?

Thanks!

*Edit: Ok, I figured it out. If anyone else is wondering this same thing, these pieces go perpindicular to the other pieces to give it depth.

One of these days I will make a set of assembly instructions, but I did mention that this goes together very differently then pepakura stuff. Thanks for working through it!

BIG UPDATE!! - HANDLES!!
Yes, I finally freed up some time to start on the Nightmare in Silver Cyberman, here is the first part, the head! Or "handles" as many have started calling him. I figure I will keep posting in this thread, but I will update some to the front page and alter the title at times. Enjoy!

Like last time, gonna start with the head and work my way down. No pepakura here folks, just hard core talent!

I use xacto knives for the mouth and eyes, and I also bevel in to make it look thinner.

Looks like he's having a cigarettehuh?

All the parts laid out

The ears first, the base gets a layer.

Then that gets another layer and the ears are done

Next they get glued to the sides of the head flat, it helps to keep them flat when we start curving the foam

Now we're taking shape!

I dremel the texture off of the inside areas so that the glue will stick better between layers.

Now the cheeks are in

I noticed the head was looking flat on top and realized a bridge piece needed to be put in

Now the head looks rounded, don't you think?

And then a strip to seal it up

The pipes were a difficult combination, thank god I have access to a lathe and mill. First I cut lengths of pvc tube, then i poured urethane resin into them and because of shrinkage I was able to tap them out. Then I milled holes in the tubes, and lathed notches into the resin.

When they are slipped back into the tunes, it looks just like handles, handles!

Now I added a neck to really help bring the form together and help the curved aspect on the bottom chin

Painted and done! Sorry, skipped a step or two, but I had a deadline and was in a hurry.

This is the mold for the pipes, I will make a new "gang" mold later with 2 side pipes and one top pipe.

Close up of the pipes. I made a vacuform for the corner bend, but that needed to be redone, it's not strong at all.

Keep watching and keep building! (or should I say UPDATING!) :)

#1 Thank you soo much for this post, build, blue prints, advice and everything I can't think of right now Your amazing

#2 I wanted to post some of my progress pics on here as alot of other users have done. I'm prety proud of my work so far.

Thanks,
ZomBen

I know there is alot of fine tuning I need to work on but this is also my 1st ever costume build. And such a advance build to start with.

Last set... For now :D

Now here is where I need help... Please Wondersquid, your my only hope :D

2014-04-14 23.02.20.jpg2014-04-14 23.02.32.jpg2014-04-14 23.02.41.jpg2014-04-14 23.02.49.jpg

Also, ignore the tape. I just find it helps me glue the pieces more securly while freeing up my hands.

I don't know where I am going wrong but it seems like my placement is off or I'm missing a piece. The jaw seems way larger than yours and less defined.

I tried emailing you personally but I guess you never noticed my email.

Thanks again!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Hey

I'm working on a Buzz as well. Let me know when you have something to post. I'll do the same if you're interested

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

I just quoted this pic here for an additional question. The strip in the dead center of the back. What was the width and length of both of these pieces. I didn't seem to have any dimensions on those. And please can someone help me with my recent posts above about the mask. It just don't look right. The Walkin Dad mentioned it in a earlier post but I need guidance. Preferably with images.

Thanks.

Shiroppi - Print the Cybershade at A4 size. It's closest to 8.5x11 inches which is the American paper size I used.

Zomben - Good eye! I forgot to make that pattern! That strip in the back I believe was 2" wide (50.8 mm). But I think I may have made it wider then it needed to be to compensate for how big around my chest size is. Just cut a strip out of the same thickness as the back pieces and glue to the center between them, but glue it offset, so the strip is recessed below the surface of the back pieces. Just do the same for the lower back part too. Offset and recess.

Thank you. And any help with the face/helmet. Something is wrong. I got spare face pieces that appearently go underneath to provide depth but can't figure it out. The Walking Dad figured it out but I was hoping for additional guidance... maybe even a pic.

Also here is me wearing some of the costume I have completed all ready.

Holycrap! I just realized I have 3 weeks and 2 days to finish this project... Please if anyone could help me with my previous mask issues... with pictures if possible that would be highly appreciated.

OK, Zomben - here is a face I put together from the patterns to try to see what you are having trouble with. My wife was kind enough to take these extensive photos of the inside and out. Hopefully this will reveal (and resolve) the issues your having. Good luck.DSCN4926.JPGDSCN4927.JPGDSCN4928.JPGDSCN4929.JPGDSCN4930.JPGDSCN4931.JPG

Well both you and your Wife rock. That solves everything. Thanks so much!

I prety much got everything covered now, should all just be cut and glue. Hopefully I can complete this in 3 weeks.

I only got 1 other question for now. What's the measurements for the pvc pipes?

Thanks again. Soo much!

I think 1/2" PVC is what I used, but that's ID! Which means probably closer to 3/4" OD. Glad it helped!

20140512_102214.jpg20140512_102207.jpgGot my head done (except pvp pipes) yay. Now on to plasti dip of everything I have complete so far. Only got 2 quick questons. First for the plasti dip did you use the spray or the can? Also for the head piece on the brow where the circle and lines are it seems like you never had a piece on thenplans for that? How should that piece look?
