Cyberman in FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Is there a pattern for the Nightmare in Silver Cyberman anywhere? This is the exact mask i need to make. Also what other glue can I use besides barge?

Aww ok, I'm just looking for the head pattern as my husband is cosplaying as the doctor in the Season 7 Christmas special where the Doctor carries the cyberman head around and the Nightmare in Silver Cyberman is the right kind of head pattern I need. I'll keep checking back.

Your work is amazing.

I have partial patterns, I'm so busy I haven't had time to finish. Patience...: )

wondersquid, i would just like to say that your cyberman costume looks amazing. I am looking forward to your nightmare in silver patterns. I go to an anime convention every year but ive never made a costume and I was wondering, how would i scale this to my height of 5'4"

Yes she loves it, We are finishing my 4yr old's dalek costume right now, and starting a weeping angel for my 3yr old. I will post a pic when they are all finished.

Hi Wonderdsquid,
Firstly, thanks for making these awesome patterns available.

I bought a set off you a while back and am just about to get started (Everything except helmet as I have one already)

I was just wondering if you had any tips or instructions for the arms? I'm struggling a little to work out how they go together :-(

many thanks

2014-08-17 17.27.46.jpg @Nobby, I've been working with Wondersquid's pattern and after getting some fed back from him, the outer layer needs a bit of encouragement to fit all the way around the inner layer, the foam is easy enough to stretch the distance with some gentle yet firm manipulation. You will find the same issue with the thighs, but with a bit of stretching as you glue, it will work out.
If you look at the Picture you will notice the inner layer bulges out a little, showing the compression that the outer layer is exerting on it.
I hope this helps a little.

Thanks for that.
I've been working on it a little today and things seem to be getting a little easier the more I do :)

Has anyone tried that new metallic plastidip? For my Cyberman I am going to likely use rub n buff but am curious with the new plastidip and if anyone has used it yet?

Are you referring to the mettalizer? Yes I tried it to varying results. The rub and buff idea sounds cool, snap some pics and show us how it goes. I'm very curious. Sorry Nobby for not responding, Terranous is right, its about stretching the foam a little. Best of luck. :)

Fantastic thread.... Cyberman terrified the **** out of me when i was a wee kid.. lots of great talent with foam..... i need to try one of these :)

GREAT WORK GUYS

cheers

Alex

Yeah the plastidip Metalizer is what I was talking about. Will probably take some scrap foam and try rub n buff and the metallic plastidip and see which I like more.

How the heck do you get such clean lines? I had a super sharp knife, made good templates, at least they look good to me, made what I thought were clean cuts... And I have my suit assembled, but man it's not pretty. If I look in the mirror at ten feet and squint a bit it looks pretty good, but up close I want to start over. How much of this will be fixable at the PVA and plastidip steps? Light sanding ok?

I was thinking of using smooth on epsilon for some of the worse parts so I could use bondo to fix it. The parts that are at joints, and the back side of the cod piece would still get the plastidip treatment so I can sit down or move without cracking the suit.

and don't get me started on my seriously lopsided helmet. Good thing I pepped a helmet first. I'm in the process of fiberglassing it.

Thank you so much WonderSquid for your dedication to getting the directions out there! We've started doing ours using your templets. So far so good. For gluing your pieces, did you use Barge or did you use hot glue? And for beveling edges- do you recommend doing that before or after attaching the pieces? This is our first time doing something like this :)

I use Barge Liquid cement, out of the yellow can. I do bevel before I glue parts together if you can, I find it easier. Good luck! Keep the pics coming!

We'll definitely try to keep up to date. We need to pick up Barge. Can you give any help on beveling? We've never done it before, never the less to foam. Can it be achieved with a rotary/Dremel?

Bevel cutting is a bit of an art that requires practice and patience. I do it free hand using double edge razor blades. But I've been cutting like this for years. I know some people use matt cutters that have an angle option to them. Maybe its time to get that tutorial channel going.

I'd thought I would post up pics of my build so far

As for bevel cutting I'm doing it freehand but I practiced a lot on scrap foam.I use a steel ruler on straight bevel cuts also
