COMPLETED -- Converting the FX toy X-Wing

Re: Converting the FX toy X-Wing into a display piece

Incredible work, my friend, incredible work :thumbsup

I've been taking some mental notes on the finishing techniques for when I finally get around to my CC xwing.

Thanks guys! Franz you made me laugh because I almost feel lik apologizing for peppering you all with potos of this clean ship!

Yes, weathering will begin shortly! ;)

OK, getting dirty. Clearly still a WIP...

That looks nice !
Where did you do a mounting point ? Back or bottom ?

Re: Converting the FX toy X-Wing into a display piece

Thanks! Still a long way to go. Even the areas that are more or less "done" still need to have more weathering.

Mounting point? You mean thses things won't really hover? ;)

Actually, I haven't come up with that yet! I'm bad about that and usually don't do a mounting point until its all done. Not the best approach. But I will probably do it in the belly.

Making good progress with the weathering, but I CANNOT get it from looking too white! :angry

Both...

I posted the following in the "X-Wing Finishes" thread, which offers some insight:

"I started with a white base to sort of test this approach.

It's funny how ambient lighting effects this model. In my shop, which is nearly all white flourescent light, the model registers almost too white, even in areas of heavy weathering.

But under more yellow, incandescent lighting, it looks more correct.

Even Kuhn Global's Red 5 looks different under the different ambient conditions. With his blues screen shots, its more white. and with the green screeen shots it looks more beige."

Looks very pretty to me. Flash kills everything IMO lol.

One more, daylight. Yeah - I'm a bit relieved seeing it without flash...

Re: Converting the FX toy X-Wing into a display piece

LOVE that response! Thank you!! That's part of what makes it all worthwhile!

I was getting discouraged with the apearance with the flash photography, but (as usual) the non-flash shows it better, and more for what it really looks like in person. And I'm pleased!

When I'm ALL done, I'll use my wife's higher res camera, and really put some effort into the photos (where's Kurt!?)...
