Limited Run CLOSED: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Great video! I got mine in but only took pictures while opening it up with my phone. It's gorgeous the paint job is more than I could have ever dreamed. No to mention the packaging was a very pleasant surprise.

Question I forgot did the centering of the clip lining up with the center of the saber ever get fixed? When I twist the body of the saber so the threads are tight the clip is slightly off center to the right. If you guys don't get what I mean I can take a picture to show you.

I'm not sure how much it matters it doesn't seem like the belt portion of the clip clears the pommel of the saber anyways. So I don't think I'll use it.

Edit here is a picture of what I was talking about:

Hi Brian, it's actually a problem with the screen design of the saber clip.

There were ones made that weren't meant to hold a saber. these have 3 layers to the ears. When using 3 layers the saber won't fit on right. We also see this in the film because there are some shots where you see a saber clip with only 2 layers in the ears. Likely they discovered this and modified ones that were meant to hold a saber.

When playing with some CAD in order to make the saber spacer high enough to get proper clearance over the 3 ear clip the spacer needs to be silly high.

The real fix is to take the top layer off of the saber clip in order to get the right fit. This is screen accurate as well :D

You should start a new interest thread at least... I'm in for V2 with Artisan FX paint up for sure after watching Simmon's vid

I really want to wait with an interest list until I am ready to move into real pre-production. I'm not wanting to chase people a few times if it's unnecessary. So I'm waiting for some final details with a new machinist and verifying his quality before moving into orders.

This is still moving forward. I got some testing parts machined from the new guy and I would like him to address some quality issues before I move forward.

Great thanks for the response Derrick! What about the alignment of the threads shown in the picture I linked above? How the belt clip on the saber isn't center when the threads are tightend? I forgot if you tried to fix this before CNC it's been so long now.

Thanks dday and Frosty for the incredible work of art!

Just received mine and it looks great. Painting is all I hoped for. Question though the top section where the wire terminates is very loosely screwed on to the middle part of the hilt. It actually flops back and forth with just the red wire keeping it from spinning all the way around. Is there a fix to this that won't require me to send it back or completely dismantle? Seems like a little plumbers tape would have tightened the threads enough to prevent the wobble. The quillions are also really loose ( cross guard ends).

Other than that the presentation and the unboxing were incredible. Thanks for the attention to detail there.

This is the same problem I have and mentioned above. If you twist to tighten the threads everything becomes missaligned. I wonder if others are having this issue as well.

Mines misaligned too, I thought that was supposed to be corrected but obviously wasn't. I ended up putting a rubber o-ring around the thread and it's just the right thickness to stop it from screwing in any further. Not ideal but it allows me to tighten it and keep everything centered.

Same issue with mine that just arrived. I also thought there was a conversation stated that this was fixed. Hope we can get something figured out.

We changed the alignment on the threads before they went into production. but either the machinist didn't use the new files or the machining wasn't accurate enough. Some of the sabers line up perfectly, some are a few mm off, some are a few more.

A big upsetting and something that should have been sorted in the QC phase of saber collection in Canada.

I will be the only stop in the chain for the V2, so I can personally ensure that everything is 100% before accepting the sabers from the machinist.

There are some different ways to fix the alignment issues.

The upper portion of the red wire can be carefully pulled out of the hole with a pair of needlenose, and you can work on the threads then.

Thanks for the update! This thing is beautiful, can't wait for it to be installed.

Does anyone have leads on the side blades? 1" main and 7/8" side correct?

Are the blade plugs that are up on Shapeways the best currently available? I'm not too keen on using those parts on an all metal hilt.

Mine was all metal also, and I bought the metallic blade plugs. They get painted darker also, and they look just fine. I'll try to go take a picture.

pics added.

Thanks for the pics Teecrooz. Still not sold on those, but if those are my only option...:unsure

I'll be printing my blade plugs on an SLA machine in clear resin, then painting lightly so some light still comes through

Anyone already looking ahead to the V2, I'll be keeping the paint scheme relatively the same since it worked out nice but ended up being far more time consuming than originally projected. That, coupled with the increased size if the V2, I expect my finishing rate to be a bit higher next time around. I'm hoping to have many of you back should you decide to invest in the V2.
