Limited Run CLOSED: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

I forgot to ask, I read the whole thread from Guabe about the V5 and still not sure...

Is this saber designed to take LEDs in the quillions or are they just designed to be open and vent ambient light from the main blade?

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Received your email and I would like the fourth option please for my saber, please let me know if I need to send more Cash, ready now.
Thanks,
AL
Got you listed down on the options, and replied :D

The saber is designed for side LED's. Ambient light won't be enough to do anything since the upper LED will shoot light directly into the top blade.

We have designed a small heatsink for the quillion. It will work with the 20mm Cree-Tri LED boards that are 20mm. You will need to shave off about 3mm from the edge of the board to get it to fit. This heatsink will go inside the quillion (not in the main body) and the quillion blade with insert on top of this and be held in with a setscrew.

Another way would be to use 3 normal LED's but the difference in the light is noticeable and not very nice.

These LED heatsinks will be a machined part and offered as a last option for those who don't want to design/figure out their own solution.

It will work like this, with the hole in the center of the "LED cup" for the wiring.

Also, the holes are sized at 3.2mm meant to be tapped with an M4 grub/set screw.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Hi there,

I’d like to show you my install job on a 3D-printed Kylo Saber. You have surely seen some of them before but this might be interesting for all those who participate in the run from Scott Baker and Derrek Day as I will be offering my install service for this saber. This 3D-printed saber served as a prototype so I could test my install and also gave some hopefully good input to the development of the saber too.

The used Plecter Labs Crystal Shard soundboard supports trident to control the side blades individually from the main blade. It is the board of choice for that install as you have all the stuff you need (can also be seen in the video). I will most probably also offer an install for a Crystal Focus or Petit Crouton.
More information about the Crystal Shard 3.0 can be found here: http://www.fx-sabers.com/forum/index.php?topic=48220.0
Manual: http://www.plecterlabs.com/Media/CrystalShard/CrystalShard-v3.0-GB.pdf

Using 3 x 5 mm LEDs in the side emitters doesn’t lead to a satisfying result in brightness so there will be heat sinks for a Tri-Cree available. Due to the tight space of ¾” in diameter the circuit board of the LED and the lense will have to be sanded down from 20 to 18 mm (which is possible at least with the LEDs I use) to fit into the heat sink. This will allow you to have brighter side blades and also Flash on Clash in the side blades too. If you want your saber have installed by me you need to provide these heat sinks too.

I would also recommend having done the painting job before the install as I wouldn’t recommend taking the saber apart again after, except for the bottom part.

The specifications for the CS-Version will be:

  • Plecter Labs Crystal Shard 3.0
  • 3D-printed chassis
  • 3 x RRW Tri-Cree LED
  • 18650 Panasonic 3400 mAh li-ion battery
  • 2 W bass speaker
  • 2,1 mm recharge port
  • SP kill key
You must provide the empty saber and both side blade emitters. I provide everything else (sound board, chassis, main blade heat sink, LEDs, battery, speaker, recharge port, kill key, wires and all the other small stuff).

The most interesting part for most of you: how much will all that be?
The price of the complete install is 460€. I can provide the fitting set of blades (1 x 1”, 2 x ¾”) for 50€ additionally. The main blade is a “thin walled” blade (7/8 inner diameter) but nevertheless we use these blades in our shows, they are definitely duel-worthy.
I can also offer li-ion chargers for 2.1 mm recharge ports for one cell for about 20€ here in Germany. It should be possible to install a R.I.C.E.-port if you want to.

Very cool. Any chance you would be willing to sell the electronics in kit form, so that we could do the install ourselves?

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Not for the Crystal Shard as this board is not available for retail sale and I'm not allowed to sell the boards or kits with boards individually. Making a kit for a Nano Biscotte is definitely possible although it doesn't feature Trident (delayed ignition of side blades). Making one for the Prizm should also be possible.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Good lord Dday. Keep talking my language. I'm going to have to buy you a drink here soon.

I'm seriously stoked that I got in on this run. Props goes to ARKM. I was going to buy a Korbanth but he told me to come check this run out. Glad I did.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

I am indeed working with Saber electronics installs with Bertuzzi.

He will be my installer based in Germany. US based orders are welcome to use him if you wish, and my EU based orders will be defaulted to him. Saber Project is a huge setup here in Germany, attending all the major and most of the minor conventions, doing some pretty awesome light saber shows and they always have a TON of sabers both custom and standard on display. Markus is the electronics man behind all of this.

For those in the USA who would like to get an installer in their country, this is also possible and I will be detailing the options I have found for you in the next update for all the people who have ordered a saber.

There will be electronics and painting services offered for everyone who wants it in the USA and Europe. These services are external from me, and I will not be handling them except to let you know who they are and if you want I will ship your saber to them for their service, all money for said services will go directly to them. I just want to make sure that everyone who buys these will have the option to get them finished professionally.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

This is the purchase list for the Kylo Ren Light saber based on a fan sculpt. The model was created by Gustavo who has put his blood sweat and tears into this model.

The final pricing for the blank saber (full details but no electronics).

Saber: $450

Sign up here: http://goo.gl/forms/5GdnOzIoCY

All parts are CNC machined with the exception of 3 pieces. The Emitter cutout, the exposed core at the bottom and the end cap. These 3 parts will be pressure cast in a strong but impact resistant resin.

If you want all parts in Resin, you have to pay the $450, plus:

The first option is if you would like to have a machined endcap for an additional $50.
Second is the exposed core for $105
Third is the emitter cutout for $80.
Fourth option is all of the above: $235 additional.

If you don't want these, you'll get the 3 parts in resin with the same details, they just won't be metal.

The parts that are not included but the STL files are available for you to print your own are the 3 blade plugs, the chassis and the kill key (for those who will use one).

The entire structure and every part that you will touch regularly is CNC aluminium, and a few detail parts are resin. Everything that gives the saber it's structural integrity to allow for a weighty hilt you can smash against other sabers is made from aluminium and will hold up to heavy dueling.

The run is already in progress and the prototype is in production. Expected completion by the machinist is 3 weeks from now.

Here are some of the prototypes parts that are done now:

Shipping is separate to this cost and will need to be better defined before final payments are due.

Hilts going to anywhere in the world except Europe will ship from Canada.

Hilts that will deliver to Europe will ship from Germany.

Pricing for European buyers will look like this:
Germany: 6Euro tracked, insured
Europe: 16Euro tracked, insured

When you sign up on this list please be ready to pay a 50% deposit ($225) and the remaining 50% once the machined sabers are finished machining and will be picked up for distribution to you. Refunds will only be possible when I find someone to take your spot in the run since the funds will be going directly to the machinist to start production.

Again... do NOT sign up unless you are ready to deposit and order.

After you sign up you will be contacted via email within 48 hours for deposit payments. If you have signed up and not heard from me within the 48 hours time, please send me an PM.

Renders of the model that were sent to the machinist.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Signed up and payment sent! I signed up for all 3 of the aluminum options. I hope there is enough of us that we can get this done.

Thank you again for setting this up.

Brian, thanks!

There are enough people for the additional parts, we have at least 30 people signed up for the additional parts.

Re: Kylo Ren CNC aluminium ultra accurate Saber

Don't know how I missed this...count me in. Just let me know where to send the deposit. Did the Google signup thing already...all metal parts please :)

I do have a question. The greeblie opposite side of the cut side, should it be in more of the center of the opening instead of at the top?

Boochy,

As far as a professional paint job, I've been talking to GeneralFROSTY; (Artisan FX) in the US about using him for the paint jobs.

The price is going to depend on me getting him a prototype to paint up to determine the work involved.

As a rough estimate we're looking in the range of $200-$220. Depending on how many people will want him to do the jobs, we could get a better group discount when he gets all the hilts at the same time for finishing.

I'm sure there are others around willing to do it for less. The General is a very known quantity and quality you can guarantee, so this is why I'm going to use him as my go-to guy.

If you find someone else though, I can ship it anywhere you like.
