First layers of silicon are now applied. From previous experience I know that it's better to have a thicker mould than a thinner one. My first cyberhead mould caved in because it was too thin.
One very wet layer. Then I add thicksotropic stuff and make a couple more thicker layers.
Put the Fibreglass shell on the first half. Now it is ready fro the other half to be completed.
I made sure there was enough edge for the fibreglass so that I can clamp the two halves together when it's complete. When I do the rest of the head I'm hoping that I can cut the back part off so it will be wearable and solve the expanding gap problem. We will see.
Managed to pull the moulds apart. So the top of the head is now done. Yahoo!!!! Time to pull a few out and start on the main head. Not to self, must get some more laser cut panels done.
Pulled the first two out of the top head mould. I'm trying to cast it with aluminium powder but it's a bit problematic.
The first one shrank away from the mould and trying to fix it the resin ran underneath the original and created raised bit. It will take some sanding to fix but I never give up on something so close to being right. Trying some new ideas out over Christmas. Merry Christmas!! (incase I forget) and have a great new year. So much potential ahead!
I have now polished the aluminium coldcast and it has come up quite nice. It's not as shiny as I had hoped. Anyone have any ideas? I have never done cold cast before. I tried some tests with varying amounts of Aluminium powder and they never came out that shiny. I can always paint them?
Love what youve done there. Have you tried wire wool to polish the cold cast aluminium. It is not that shiny straight from the mold because it is covered in resin. It takes something abrasive like wire wool to remove the resin and expose the aluminium.
Wil.
I went to a seminar two years ago and I remember they did this two ways: one was just mixing in the powder and the other was to coat the inside of the mold with powder and then add the resin. The second way probably would not work if you are rotocasting.
Now starting to mould the main head. All small holes filled and I'm building the damn that will be the seam of the mould. I have chosen to run the seam down the front because it's easier to sand it flat if the area is flat. I have run the seam down the side of a helmat to hide it before and had all sorts of problems trying to get the thing smooth. My only concern is that you may be able to see a seam line in the flow of the resin. But that is only a problem if I cold cast other wise the paint will hide it all.
The eyes look really nice in gloss black, really soulless.
Hell YES!!!! any idea on a price for the kit?? I need to start massing cash for it and a number would help greatly as I need to calculate WHAT of my stuff to sell to get the kit.
Hey guys. Look I've had several people ask for a price. I was thinking about £250. Is that too much, too less. I'm saving for a 3d Printer so I can continue making stuff.
