Classic Cyberman Helmet

I have been playing with texturing the helmet. I tried sanding a piece of plastic with heavy grit sand paper and then painting it. No good, the paint filled the scratches and just looked lumpy. I tried sanding the paint but it left lines all over the paint. Finally I tried very fine steel wool and rubbed it gently in one direction.

Not too bad. I think I am close. I'm going for a brushed metal look, any suggestions.

Nice! The steel wool effect has really made it look sort of machined, I like it as is. Really cool to see this build nearing completion.

Well it's been a busy month at work! Thats all settling down now so it's back to the cybergrind. I haven't been completely immobile, I have moulded the ear pipe and now it gets down to the nitty gritty. Lots of fine details. Then I have to save for silicon and resin. Yay!

G'day all. Been a busy month but it has slowed down enough for me to continue building.

I had some new head identifications cut on the old laser cutter. They now contain the original cyber logo. One of them is the real logo and the other is the pared down one so that it doesn't look so busy. I also had the front indent cut on the laser cutter so that it would be accurate. It's a who lot neater than I could do by hand.

And here it is mounted on the helmet

It's all coming together. The top will be a seperate piece and I will soon be able to mould it. The ear pipes are done and I have them out of the mould

Starting the final phase. Now it's time for all those fine details. I've started with the fine screws on the face plate and the big ones at the neck.

Here it is so far. The completest it has ever been. Almost ready for a coat of paint and the lights.

Ok here he is 90 percent finished. The texture is on and the effect is quite convincing. There are a few tweaks but he should be finished today!!

I'm going to reproduce the picture he is based on so I have to make some shoulder armour and pipes. Oh and put the lights in. Even the one in his forehead. Such fun! Completed photo later today.

OK, so close but yet so far Here he is in all his glory. The final thing I have to finish is the three bars on the light at the top of his head. I vac formed some shoulder armour and I need to make two more bits of body works and then he will be ready to reproduce the wonderful Matthew Savage art work. I won't bore you with any other photos until the master piece.

Missed this one too. Fantastic work, really first class. I love this design, so much better than the new ones in the show. Something very retro and creepy about it.

So here he is. I took him into the photo studio and played about with the lighting. Sadly I couldn't recreate the lighting in the Matt Savage painting. One of the photos is the model simply duplicated and blurred in photoshop, While the other photo was moving the model about with a locked off camera. I haven't used any other photoshop filters, yet... But tell me which one you prefer. Excellent design. Thanks Matt.

The moulding process has started. I've made a wall around the top of the head. I chose to run the seam around the smooth bits because it's easier to sand it away and hide the join there, I think??? I'll start with the top and then onto the main head.

I need to ask, I've never seen anyone make better Doctor Who props, do you sell or make custom costumes and props?
