Chrome tape on ANH Obi lightsaber clamp?

I can see two pieces of the 'X' in red.

It's quite possible the rest of the x and the missing parts of the grooves are just washed out by light reflecting off the clamp (flash?) and that they're not hidden under any chrome tape after all. In fact, you can make out a hint of the dark grooves on the right hand side right above the transistor.

I don't buy it...if the flash washed it out we wouldn't see the dirty looking bits. Just a white spot.
