Yes, I'm well aware of Apemania, but man! Those are expensive for a Halloween costume! I seem to recall a site that sold a two part prosthetic that look fantastic for around 150.00. Anybody have that site saved?
Thanks! I sculpted it on the Arnie bust in the background, and made a mold so I could make a lightweight, resin shell. That blasted flap (havelock) on it turned out to the hardest part of the whole blasted costume! :lol
Here are the shots I sculpted mine from. This is the original "Urko" helmet from the TV series.-
This one differs slightly from the original Ursus helmet, in that the Ursus helmet had a leather cover that was stretched over a fiberglass or vacuformed shell to give the upper half the proper shape, but the Urko version had the havelock added under the shell, and then just had the embossed leather glyph panel added to the front. The corners of the havelock had big drapery weights, or at least thick washers in the tips to give them weight, and help them hang better.
Like busses, you wait ages for an 'Apes' post and two turn up at the same time! :lol http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=69429
This is what I'm doing with a Woochie apppliance, attached to a spandex hood. Hair is Kanakalon (sic) and the ears are latex goofy ones. All stuck on and now with the hair being punched through, several strands at a time.
You really should spring for the extra $2 for real hair for around the face. If you're gonna spend the time hand punching, it should be with something that looks, lays and acts like hair - cause it is. Kanekalon will always look like plastic and that can be good for some things, but for this you might want to look at real hair.
