I got the idea of dreads cut a piece of foam.
I made some dreads cut foam and it seems that went well.

are flexible and very light.
takes a lot of work but we can get  very cheap dreads.

will apply latex with black acrylic paint and if it is good I will continue this process

hope you like it.

They look good, and definitely look better than backer rod.  There's no better way to ruin a pred than by putting backer rods on it's head.  I think it will be worth your effort.

if have if I have luck.
Thank you.
I made a video of the flexibility the dreads.
I'll upload soon.

Very nice. How long does it take you to make one dread? Seems like it would be a very long process.

Movement looks pretty good.  Put some dread beads on em' and they'll look even better.  I did a few this way before switching to the 2 part foam dreads, but had planned to do all of them because backer rod dreads are (in my opinion) the most horrible thing you can put on a pred.  It may be allot of work, but it will be worth it in the end, and won't be backer rod :)

i did a few like this a few years ago with great success but it was taking me about 2-3 hours per dread but yeah for literally $20 worth of foam and time.....and time.......and more time the results wil be awesome

I've applied latex black paint and has been very good.

much more flexible than before

and very light.

one dread  weighs about 25-30 grams.

Looking good!  I know it's time consuming, but keep at it.  It will be worth your effort and hard work in the end.  Plus, you won't ruin a fantastic mask with backer rod dreads!

hey they look great! this is exactly what I did with my build years ago and they are still holding strong! very awesome when you coat them in one or two latex layers. I mixed black acrylic paint into my liquid latex and painted them on. They dry a very nice black and have great movement! :)

here is the video I had in my threads that for some reason got deleted. :(

this was with one coat of the latex mix. After another they were heavier and had a better movement.

Edit: Found it :)
