CEREAL KILLL3R'S - Halo 3 Master Chief (WIP with Videos)

re: CEREAL KILLL3R'S - Halo 3 MK VI Comprehensive wip

Hahaha, duh! I should have asked, "Where did you get the visor from to cut?" :p

I purchase motorcycle visors online, any will do and there are several places that sell them, like Amazon.

Ok, now I have to ask, where did you get that bone scraper? I've searched online for hours and can't find anything that looks anything like it.

From the morgue :X

I'm beginning to think you may be right. x_x

Lmao!
I actually have a friend of the family who is a dentist. He gave me an assortment of different dental tools to use. Some are handy... while some are not. (unless you want to be a backroom dentist) ;)

UPDATE! (FINALLY!!)

Alright, back to business as usual! I am on my way back out to the garage to see about getting some more work done, but first... A long overdue update!

Below is a picture of some of the materials I will be using in the re-connection of the front and back torso pieces:

  • Box Magnets - Used to hold the lower torso in place.
  • Side Clips & Strapping - Used to hold the upper torso together (ONLY AS SECONDARY FAILSAFE!)
  • Aluminum Rod - Used to make pegs to keep alignment between the fron and back pieces.

Here are the lower magnets assembled. What I have done is fused angle brackets to the magnets using epoxy. The brackets will provide an surface in which the magnets will be able to anchor to the piece.
DSC_0698.jpg

Here are the installed upper magnets (hard drive magnets) which will hold the upper connection in place. They also have been attached using epoxy.

DSC_0860.jpg

I made metal clips which will complete the connection of the upper torso. These clips will connect to the magnets on the corresponding face.

Here is the completed mounting of the lower connections and the guide pegs.

All of the steps taken to build the connections are in the new video installment below:

As usual, I hope that everyone is getting some use out of the videos. Any questions, comments or critiques... Always welcome! Next update will be Detailing the back (lots of work!) and battle damaging the chest plate! (fun, fun, fun!!!)

Take care all!

Your work is amazing, and pretty inspiring as well! It looks like you're scaling the pieces quite a bit bigger than the original file. Is that due to the files being a tad too small, or are you just a tall dude? Thanks, and thanks for sharing the great work!

Thanks!
Actually the original file scaling is 1:1 so it's actually much smaller since I am nowhere near 7'2" tall! lol.
I'm 6' and somewhat broad shoulder to shoulder, that would probably have something to do with the girth-ish look to the piece.

UPDATE!

Alright, managed to get some work done today! Ended up working on the back piece, getting some of the detailing done.

Started with a generous coat of bondo.

DSC_0873.jpg

After some sanding and shaping and then some more sanding, we're left with this:

DSC_0876.jpg

A nice glaze coat to fill all the scratches and imperfections:

DSC_0878.jpg

Filed away all the high spots on the bottom right. Applied bondo and smoothed everything out slowly but surely producing the final rough shape. I also added the circle details on the bottom as well:

DSC_0885.jpg

After much debate...
I decided to add the trench that goes around the power cells on the upper back. This took some time, measuring and a very steady hand!

DSC_0889.jpg

After more cutting and some re-enforcing of the back piece I began to smooth everything out and as per normal I rounded over all of the sharp edges allowing the piece more flow:

DSC_0899.jpg

Here's a quick shot just to compare the left and right side. Just to the changes that happened.

It may not look like much, but believe me.... this took a lot of time and energy!!! But, in the end I'm happy with how it came out so it was totally worth it!

I got more than I had hoped to get done. It's a good thing because I won't get a change to work on the armor until Saturday.

Meh, don't mind too much as I'm tired now!

Well, not a huge update... but an update none the less! As usual, any questions/comments... always welcome!!

Till next time!

Just a little update...

The build is coming along quite smoothly. Time consuming, but smoothly!!
I'll be getting back to work on it first thing Saturday morning, and it looks like I'm going to be able to spend the entire day on it so it should be eventful!

I'm also going to be placing an order for some smooth-on products sometime next week so I can start the mold/cast process for my helmet!
(kinda nervous and excited about the whole process) But I've been reading and researching the whole process and am feeling quite confident More to come soon!
Take care all!
Dave.

Fiberglassing, rondoing, ect. None of it intimidates me as much as the idea and process of casting. I'll be interested to hear about your experience, as I have plans to do the same when I finish up my helmet.

Ditto. I'm planning on starting with some small items before I cast something the size of a helmet.

Well, just an FYI, I will be making a video series that will cover the mold/cast process from start to finish. When it's up you'll be able to find it on my Youtube channel with all of my other tutorial videos! (link in my sig line)

Figured I'd say something, Just incase you guys would be interested! :)

UPDATE!!!

Alright, here we go!
So I started on the upper part of the back piece, first things first... a generous coat of bondo!

DSC_0919.jpg

Next everything got a thorough sanding and general shaping. Then the area was coated with glazing putty:

DSC_0929.jpg

Here I've started cutting in some of the back details and drawing in some of the trench details that will wrap from back to side... remember... I'm going for "Game Accurate!" I've always wondered why these specific details are never added to Mk VI builds? I think they are important to have, they finish off the piece!

DSC_0937.jpg

The trench as been cut in and I've started glazing some of the other areas to smooth them out. Here are a few pictures:

DSC_0949.jpg

DSC_0952.jpg

DSC_0957.jpg

Let me apologies in advance for not taking too many pictures of "step by steps" sometimes it's hard to keep remembering to stop and snap a few images :( However, as per normal, the other side will be covered in the next video installment! So fear not, everything will get covered! :)

Here are some pictures of the work so far... Enjoy!!

DSC_0986.jpg

I added some more detail under the are where the front and back pieces meet:

DSC_0996.jpg

And last but not least, here's a quick "then and now" reference shot just to see what changes have happened from the stock pep (left side) to the added definition (right side)

Well that's about it for now!
More to come! As usual, questions/comments... Always welcome!!!

Till then,

re: CEREAL KILLL3R'S - Halo 3 MK VI Comprehensive wip

So uh... you'll be doing the suits when they finally make the movie right?

That... would be an honor and an awesome job to have! :love

However... I really cannot (with a straight face) say that it would be a job.
Because Job == Work... doing this does not feel like work!
I shake my head in disbelief that there are people who get to do this sorta thing day in, day out...

Envy... is my Sin! :cry

ANOTHER UPDATE!!!

Well... it's been a productive weekend! So here is another update. The right side of the back piece is done! (Rough state that is) Final detailing will be done once the whole piece is in the Rough Done state.

Ok, let's go!
The last of the trench lines need to be done! Here I've made my lines to follow when cutting.

NOTE: It should be known that anywhere there are cut-ins like this, the piece has been reinforced prior to making any cut at all. Once the lines are finalized, the piece is bulked up accordingly. To not reinforce would be ill advised and asking for a world of hurt!

Ok... where were we... Oh yeah that's right!

DSC_0012.jpg

Trench cut, bondo applied! Waiting for it to cure and then we'll make it look pretty! :)

DSC_0022.jpg

Time for a new layer! So, made my lines then taped up accordingly. Next will be a layer of filler then some sanding and glaze.

DSC_0037-1.jpg

Layer detail applied, sanded, rounded and glazed! Once dry, sand, sand, sand!

DSC_0038.jpg

Sanding done, area starting to smooth out nicely!

DSC_0131.jpg

This area will be getting a detail that jets straight out. Therefore, a support is needed to keep the filler where I want it! This will also guarantee that I have straight lines too!

DSC_0139.jpg

Detail added, sanded, rounded, straightened and glazed! (This one was tricky!)

DSC_0147.jpg

At this point, the right back side is done for now! Once all the detailing is done over the whole piece, I will come back over everything and do the final "fine detail" work!

Here are some pictures of how everything looks so far! It will look worlds better once I shoot it with some primer, but I am currently out! So until I get out to the store to get some more, these will have to due!

Enjoy all!

DSC_0164.jpg

DSC_0166.jpg

Just a quick comparison from left to right, just to see how different the piece looks from the front:

DSC_0172.jpg

And finally just to see it all starting to come together!

DSC_0179.jpg

DSC_0183.jpg

Well, that's about it for now everyone! I should have some time mid-week to get back to this, Maybe sometime before then I'll get some primer and post some pics. We'll see.

As usual, any comments/questions/critiques.... always welcome :)

Take care all!

Ridiculous (in a good way). I hope someday to be able to pull off this kind of work. Amazing work, friend.

re: CEREAL KILLL3R'S - Halo 3 MK VI Comprehensive wip

Damn! Speechless !

I hope to get a copy of this!

Thanks man, Flattered!
I will be molding the helmet soon, as for the entire suite... it will be some time still... but it will happen!
