Celebrity jerks?

I haven't met any nerd celebrities that were jerks. They've all been very nice people to me. This past summer, I met JG Hertzler and Robert O'Reilly in full Klingon makeup and costume and it was awesome. They were hamming it up for the camera for all the fans and taking advantage of every second to joke around and make over exaggerated angry Klingon faces. Also met a handful of comic artists who were all super cool. J Scott Campbell spent about a half hour chatting with a fan studying illustration about getting into comics, and the techniques he uses, just helping her out.

The "jerk" celebrities I've met were athletes. I have heard that Patrick Kane is pretty douchey, and maybe it was because my friend and I were at a Hawks @ Rangers game instead of a Hawks home game, but he really gave fans outside the hotel the cold shoulder. Granted, there were some non-fans there (those people who just get free autographs to sell online). And Sergei Federov was sort of a jerk after the game THEY WON in his home city. I watched fans follow him asking for autographs in their NY Rangers yearbooks and he was pretending to be on a phone call and trying to dodge them. Didn't seem very nice, after a bunch of other players were very gracious to over-exuberant fans after a pretty great win.
Also, Steven Stamkos grew up down the street from me. That kid was always a cocky little snot and apparently has gotten worse.

If you go to any of the "Old Timers" hockey games most of them are really nice. Gary Leeman is AWESOME to talk to, Guy Lafleur was super gracious as well as folks like Bryan Trottier and the like.

One year they had some Women's Team Canada alumni and they were all thrilled that anyone even knew who they were. They make us proud every 4 years and are super nice to boot. :thumbsup

Well not saying all athletes or all hockey players. Though the young ones do tend to be pretty cocky sometimes.

Lou Ferrigno is a total jerk. So many people agree. The min he signed photo and took my $20 he turned his head as if he wanted me gone. I've heard Gary Busey was nuts and wouldnt let my buddy and his friend pool their cash for autograph for their apartment they shared.

I've been over getting stuff signed for a long time. Though I do want to buy a photo signed by the cast of supernatural as its my favorite show.

aww man, not the hulk.

Nah. Peter Mayhew was nice enough to me and he's great with kids. He's got some medical issues so maybe he comes off that way to some.

I met Mayhew once a couple years ago and he was polite. Not that there was a ton of time to be rude. It was 'hello what's your name? *signs a thing* bye, thanks for coming out.' There were a whole bunch of other people in line behind me.

Medical issues are definitely something fans should remember. Don't know how many times I've heard people say Wil Wheaton is a jerk, but I met him this summer and he wasn't at all. He explained in his blog why he can't shake hands with people at cons (weak immune system means he gets sick if he shakes hundreds of people's hands in a weekend) even though he really wants to. He was very nice anyway when I saw him. Very engaging speaker and conversationalist.

I am feeling so tortured right now-- Arnold Schwarzenegger is in Washington DC TONIGHT for his book signing-- I live a lousy 25 minutes away, but the event is sold out already :cry

The Will Wheaton issues are directly from Dr. Sheldon Cooper though right? lol I didn't think he was actually a jerk in real life.

You know who is a real big jerk I forgot about? Andrew Birnaski (sp?) from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes and he was Latimere on The Program. At a convention, he hit on my wife when we were engaged right in front of me and completely ignored me until he stood up to intimidate me. I told him, "hey BRO....RELAX..she's my fiance..." He got up and I was with a buddy of mine who trained with the Graces in Brazilian Jujitsu. He's also a collector. My buddy put his hand on Andrew's chest and told him to back down. Andrew is massive and wanted to start something but he could tell my friend was a fighter with his cauliflower ears and face that looks like it's taken shots before. My buddy is 6'4 220 lbs and while Andrew is like 6'7 285, he backed down as I'm sure he only picks on people way smaller than him that he knows he can take. Because that same night he was insulted by some small guy at the Hotel bar and punched him so hard he flew over and flipped a table.

I prefer when a celebrity at least engages me a little bit, especially when they have NO line. I'm a very social and approachable guy so if a celebrity takes my money himself without an assistant, it's awkward if he just waits for me to choose a picture and sign it. It makes the photo lose it's meaning to me if I'm just handing over $20 to a celeb and getting a nice signed photo without really "meeting" him. That's what it's for. If they're just gonna take my money and sign without responding to my obviously fun personality, I might as well spend $5 on a photo from a dealer and forge the signature myself just to put it on the wall for cheap haha

I know this thread is for jerks...but Greg Nicotero is BIG in TV and Film and even bigger now for The Walking Dead. He charges $5 for an autograph and if you're an FX artist you can have an amazing conversation with him looking through his photo album of past jobs. I asked him so many questions about curiosities of his shop achieved certain designs and he was gracious and fun to talk to. Great guy! He charged $5 because he wanted to be cheap as I'm sure he's embarrassed to take $20 for a photo from his fans. I would be! He also had great busts and props from Narnia and other films. I think they were just models made to show off but still amazing.

A jerk, you really want to meet a real jerk: meet Michael Dorn - 'nuff said.

reading as i'm going from page one. only met him once, but he seemed nice and cordial at the autograph line to me. the gruff quiet type..
anthony daniels was pleasant to me as well..

What about ian mcdirmid, and chris lloyd? hope to meet those two next weekend. and has anyone met ed oneil?

I've met and spoke with Will Wheaton (not at a convention) he was a very nice guy. Now as for a celebrity jerk. The only person that comes to mind is Lou Ferigno.

Never met Ian but Christopher Lloyd was very nice. Quiet though, if you don't engage him he won't talk. It's not that he's rude, just shy and uncomfortable I think. I mentioned Judge Doom and he got a big smile on his face. He likes playing the bad guys.

I went to a Q&A with him as well and although he isn't the best storyteller in the world you could tell he was making a concerted effort to answer every question as thoroughly as he could. He strikes me as very genuine and humble.

Re:Stewart..

shatner just sat like a bump on the log both times I met him for a photo op at a con. one by himself, one with stewart. Stewart, on the other hand, took time to say hello and ask how i was doing. he also genuinly seemed to enjoy himself in the auto line.

The weirdest one I had was Dean Stockwell.. I'm STILL not sure what to make of him. he seemed aware of himself, but also like part of him seemed to be in his own little world.

Scott Bakula, however, also couldn't be nicer. even wandered around the con on his own un molested :).

Have to agree here. Just kind of... Not there. :lol

To be honest I expected that though. ;)

Oh, nicest person I ever met had to be Matthew Senreich. Met him and Zeb Wells at Megacon. They gave away free autographs, and loved the costume I was wearing at the time, which I don't remember what costume it was at the time since I have bad memory. Took me a while to even remember their names.

In my limited experience:

The best: Karen Allen...over the top friendly.
The worst: Jonhnathan Frakes...acted like we were a burdon.
Didn't know how to react: Maria Shriver and Arnie when I bought them each a hot dog at Disney World.
Sexiest: Alice Kriege...grabbed my butt.
Most stuck up: William Shatner
Funniest: Adam West

my frakes story is rather humorous....After he had a panel at one of the best, smallest run trek cons i've ever been to near the edge of PA....it had all but three cast members from TNG in attendance..

Most of the other stars where roaming around the merchendise area, checking out sale items like Michael Dorn. Frakes, on the other hand, looked really stressed, was walking out and asking about 4 guys surrounding him "Was I OK? " all the yes men around him told him how great he was. must have had a stressfull weekend or something :).

I've never been to a ComicCon (and really don't have a desire), but these are not the places to meet a celeb and see their true personality. What a horrible place it must be for them, like a cattle call. I know some enjoy it, but knowing how moronic the public can be, you never know if what mood they are going to be in when you walk up to the table because of the guy who was there just before you.
>>>

I have one of those stories. My photo on the left. I was so nervous meeting dan, that I had totally forgotten to take a picture of him talking to the guy in front of me. The guy had given me a camera to do just that. In my own aloof world, he asked if i got the shot, I said oh i'm so sorry, I take a nice shot of dan who was looking at me waiting to come off to the table, hand it off to the guy, and go up with my items. Must have thought i had a few vodka swigs before the line started! Hopefully I do better next time! Guy, if you are out there reading this from the 2009 Wayne NJ line, I'm Sorry for being an airhead! :)

Michael Bay is a big jerk face. I worked for him for 3 days and he totally yelled at me and a bunch of other people for tiny little things. Most people I talked with said they would not want to ever work with him again. he had to "ok" all the girls before hand, then during shooting he said they all looked like ******, he actually yelled it--at them. You ok'd them dude, sheesh.
.

I don't feel so bad about making a michael bay joke now....either he's mellowed in recent years, or the person i made the joke too really likes him and didn't appreciate it :)

First year I went to Supanova in Western Australia, I got the opportunity to meet Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame. Absolute gentleman. Very friendly and had no problem with signing my copy of Watchmen and a Watchmen movie poster. Would definetly go to another con just to see him again.

These are the stories I love to hear. :thumbsup

Nicest: Felicia Day. She always took the time to engage in a short conversation with everyone getting her autograph and let people take pics with her despite the massive line and her handlers trying to hurry people along.
James Hong is also very engaging. He knows he's best known for his roles in Big Trouble In Little China, Blade Runner and Kung Fu Panda and is more than willing to talk about them. But, he loves to talk about his television roles and his experiences with co-stars like Jack Nicholson and Christopher Walken.

Jerks: Almost the entire 21 Jump Street cast. I'm talking about the television show. They filmed an episode at my high school and all were pompous jerks who thought the world revolved around them. I'm talking about Depp, Richard Grieco, Dustin Nguyen and Steven Williams. The only nice people that took time to talk to fans were Peter DeLuise and Holly Robinson.
