Celebrity jerks?

Living in Cali and have a job where I have to deal with Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmy's, I run into celebrities all the time, not too many a-holes but a few that do have attitudes. The worse so far is leonardo dicaprio, we hire teens for our summer programs and he came out to play ball. The girls were gaga over him but he just flicked them off.

My best story yet...Brendan fraser.
What a great guy. At one point we were running into each other almost everywhere for about two months. My best friends cousin was visiting from New York for two weeks and all she wanted to see was a celebrity. On her last day we were sitting at a restaurant and she was complaining how she never got to see anyone and who was walking across the street? yep Brendan. I called him over and he came to join us. That was really cool of him and she went totaly nuts asking me how I knew him.

Richard Simmons. What you see is what you get. Ran into him at Los Angeles International Airport. He saw my wife on crutches (knee injury) and all but ran to us. He spent about 15 minutes asking about her injury, explaining various ways she could treat it, etc., and seemed genuinely concerned. Say what you will about him, he was really a nice guy.

I ran across him as he was hosting a Mardi Gras parade. Apprarently he has family in New Oreleans. And yes, he was exactly like you see him on TV personality wise. Very nice and fun.

I haven't had any contact with any celebrities of other than just passing them in the hallway as they come or go from the the 93.3 WMMR studios next door to my work. Seen tons, but never really try to bug them. I did have to shake Ozzy's hand though.

While I have not met him, when I think classic celebrity jerk, Axl Rose comes to mind. He's done so much jerk stuff. The on DJ at the radio station refers to hims as a "flaming turd"

I met Doug Jones once and he was so nice it was kinda creepy. He gave us his complete attention and was just so, so friendly. I kind of expected to look over my shoulder throughout the day and see him waving at me.

I met Carl Weathers once and wasn't impressed. I joked something like, "Hey, are you going to run for office too?" And he looked at me like I was crazy. I said, "Well... Arnold and Jesse Ventura were governors and Sonny Landham (Billy from Predator) is running for Governor in Kentucky.... so... I just..." and then he looked past me at the next person in line and that was the end of our conversation.

On that note, I've also met Sonny Landham many times and actually had a college class with him a few years ago. He was also a very friendly guy who always seemed to be laughing his ass off at something. Though he WAS one of those people who always talks to a professor in class and gets you held over all the time. That got old quick.

Fun topic. I have a few stories.

I grew up in LA, so celebrities are not that exciting to me. However, when I was 8 or 9, my family was eating at an Italian restaurant in Studio City, my home town. William Shatner was a few tables over, and my folks INSISTED I go ask for his autograph. I lost the argument and approached him, which of course is invading his space, and not cool to pester anyone. Still...he was pretty cruel, and I was devistated. No autograph.

Years later, my high school band was doing this gig at the Universal Sheriton, some sort of LAPD community thanks luncheon thing. Shatner was the keynote speaker, and the band director was all excited, had us reherse the Star Trek theme, and when we started playing, he gave us a look that was pure evil. We stopped mid-piece. Probably the coolest thing about that day was when we were hanging out by the pool waiting around to go on, Telly Sevalise (sp?) walked by and kissed the hand of one of the girls, and he was incredibly creepy and slimy. All of us were amused, except the girl.

Shatner also blew off some event at my wife's university...he cancelled like 15 minutes before he was supposed to show up, so they dubbed him the Oversized Sausage.

The dude from Dukes of Hazard, the blonde one...can't recall his name, stole a menu from the Swensons I was working at, high school job, I actually ran outside shouting for him to bring it back, but he was gone by then. :) And at the same place, I was running the store and in comes Scott Baoi (sp? again). The girl working with me was all excited, ran in the back and asked me if she should ask him for his autograph, and I said sure, celebs love fans, lol. A few mintues later, she comes back in tears. He clearly didn't give her an autograph.

Cool celebs I have known and met: Tom Poston used to come in every Sat. at the Swensons (seemed to be a TV star hang out of sort), and I used to talk to him as he ate the same sundae. Very, very cool guy. RIP.

Dick Wilson, probably known to most folks as Mr. Whipple had a son in the same Indian Guides group as me. Super great guy, I can recall making these fake bear claw necklaces in his back yard. He used to play a lot of drunks on TV, but was a lifelong non drinker.

I went to school with a number of kids who had celebrity parents, and one that I will never forget was Billy Bartey. Just a wonderful guy, loved kids, used to come to lots of school events, and he took a few of us out to see his modified car once, with the pedals raised so he could drive.

Last cool celeb story was Ray Bradbury, RIP. I went to this book signing at a SF bookstore in Pasadena, this was maybe 22 years ago now. He was really late, and the line was very long, but I was 4th in line. He comes around the corner drinking a Corona beer and smiling happily (at something like 10:30 AM). The first person pulled a manuscript out of her bag and asked him to read it. He politely said he couldnt do that, liability and all that, and then the second person pulls out a manuscript. Less polite no. The person right in front of me...yes...pulled out a manuscript, and he just blew up. So i walk up, he glares at me and askes me if I want him to read a manuscript, and I said naw, I just wanted to meet you, love your work, etc. All smiles, we talked for at least 20 minutes about his latest projects, had a great time, and when I finally left, the other people in line gave me really dirty looks.

hahah just as I suspected, he is a Prius driver after all (no offense to any normal non hollywood weenie who doesnt like girls prius drivers on the board)

One more that came to mind regarding nice celebrities. I was tasked with meeting Robert Shaw when he arrived at the university I was working at at the time, help him with his bags, and take him up to the reception they had for him. Robert Shaw was an incredibly important figure in chorale music in the 20th century. He was just really nice, and we chatted about how difficult it was to crank up a car back in his day. He was very old :).

That rates exceptionally high on the <bleeping> awesome meter. Gotta take them a good while to get him to that level. Bet they had a blast :)

Since this has become a celebrity-behavior-in-general thread, I want to make sure folks know what a cool guy Ron Perlman is. He recently donned the Hellboy costume and makeup for a Make A Wish request:

Aw, man, that's awesome. You can see the excitement on the kid's face. :)

Ron Perleman is pure awesome sauce. I spent an entire weekend with him in Detroit.

I've met Paul McGillion who portrayed Dr. Carson Beckett from Stargate Atlantis and he is super nice and has a lot of time for his fans. My second time meeting him was just amazing in 2009 at the local Stargate Con here in Vancouver.

At his talk at the end he had a small quiz where he'd ask questions. So I'm sitting there hoping i would know a question and it's now the last one and yessss! I knew it and raised my hand so fast and he picked me and i was about 2nd to last row way in the back of the room.

I got it right not knowing what i won until i got up there and he handed it to me. OMFG...I got his script from Stargate Atlantis. I was so shocked and just extremely happy. Then all the winners went backstage and he signed my script had a small talk and i told him that i also met him at Collectormania in the UK and he then handed it back to me. I think i just looked at the script and back to him and kinda froze there for a moment with a huge grin on my face and i put my hand out for a hand shake and said "Thank you so much Paul". I didn't get a hand shake though. He took my hand gave me a hug and a little peak on the cheek. I just didn't expect it at all and totally made my day.

Then later on i had a photo shoot with him and again was just awesome and i asked if i could have a goofy picture as i had brought 2 photo tickets. He agreed and when it came to the goofy pic he told me "on 3 we're going to jump at the camera." Heard a few people laugh and so did Paul and it was the best day and i was very fortunate and I'm really thankful for what happened.

Paul McGillion is the most nicest celebrity and i would say to anyone if you get the chance to meet him, go meet him. Same with a lot of the SG actors I've heard that they are very nice and great with the fans.

I've attached the pictures: Script,Nice photo,Goofy photo and my edit of the goofy photo being chased by a wraith dart.

My positives outweigh my negatives by a good margin - maybe 25:1. But the crabby ones do stand out, don't they?

I have to agree with Lou Ferrigno as one of mine. After he was a jerk to me I thought about it, and wondered if his dismissive attitude was due to his hearing loss. Maybe he just didn't know what I was talking about.

But no, he was a jerk to everyone.

The other dude I met who was a TITANIC Butt was Adam West. From what I understand this may be an isolated incident. :)

The Best of the Best? My Top Ten?

Richard LaParmientier
Michael Berryman
Christian Bale
Joe Pesci
Colin Hay
Jeremy Bulloch
Brian O'Halloran
Carroll Spinney (the man was the sweetest, most patient dude I have ever talked with in a convention setting)
Catherine Bach
Jeff Conaway

Special mention to Linda Hamilton who actually grabbed my face and made out with me at a convention. :)

Gotta give a special "Awesome Dude' mention to Springsteen, too....but that's only because I cross paths with him constantly, and he's the coolest guy.

I agree, Lou Ferrigno is the one celeb, I had issues with. I worked for a Non-Profit and it was my job to ask Celebs if they would donate to Charity, well he was the only one that ever said no, in quiet a rude way.

My favorite: Eddie McClintock, I met him the first time at D*C 2010, he signed an autograph for my daughter that was with me for free. Then at NYCC I saw him again and told him that my daughter was sad she could not be there. He remembered her cause she was dressed as Black Canary at D*C. So he asked what she was doing and I told him, she was at the Longhorns Football game. He was like "you know my wife went to UT, let's call you daughter" I was like "what?" and he said again "Call you daughter" so I did and he took my phone from me and talked to her on the phone. So yeah Eddie rules.
