Celebrity jerks?

I haven't really met many celebs. The most memorable encounter was when I was 18 and 'fresh off the farm' literally. A girl from podunk Kentucky in New York City when the biggest city she'd ever been in was Cincinnati.

Anyway we saw The Goodbye Girl of Broadway when Martin Short and Bernadette Peters were starring in it and waited at the stage door to get autographs. While waiting I kept seeing this guy that looked kinda familiar which was crazy considering where I was. And then it dawned on me: it was Tom Hanks when he was filming Philadelphia and looked NOTHING like himself. He must have noticed the moment it dawned on me cause he grinned and winked at my stupid, naive star struck self and sort of meandered on down the sidewalk.

So then Bernadette comes out and is very haughty and snooty and didn't seem to want to having anything to do with anyone but then Martin came out and my friends and I got his autograph and our faculty advisor that had come with us for the graduation trip had told us that asking for a hug was perfectly acceptable. (Maybe things have changed?) so I did. He gasped and looked horrified and shocked, really playing it up and was like "A hug? A hug?!?" then bounced a little and grinned real big and went "SURE!" Funny guy! Real sweetheart!

I have met Bruce Campbell at a book signing and movie screening as well and that guy is AWESOME. I adored him. Just as cool and personable in real life as he seems. He had the courtesy and kindness not to just have people ushered through the line as quickly as possible but took time to talk to each person and gave us all a piece of candy. He explained it as that way we could say that he "Gave us some sugar baby"

Same weekend I met the late Andy Hallett (Lorne the Host on Angel the Series) at the Wizard World ComicCon in Chicago. He was the sweetest, most genuine person I have ever met. Even though he had a line waiting for autographs he made time for each person even though his 'handler' was getting pissy about it. He saw my shirt that had my emergency services agency name on it and asked me about my job wanting to know the weirdest or funniest call I'd had so I told him. He laughed and said it sounded like it could have been an episode of Angel. He even had someone at the booth go out and take a photo of us even though his handler had been telling everyone in the line no photos. Great human being and such a bright spark. So sad that it got snuffed out too soon.

Patrick Stewart. The man is all class. Saw him at a restaurant in Toronto Canada. Didn't say a word at the time as the man was eating, and that's just rude. He walked by my table on the way out, I didn't want to point him out to the entire restaurant, so I quietly spoke his name as he passed, and when he stopped to turn around I thanked him for all of his wonderful performances that my wife and I were able to experience over the years. I shook his hand, he signed my napkin. (which was promptly lost the following day when the housekeeping lady must have mistaken it for garbage at our hotel.) I still remember what it said though:

"Thank you for being a fan, but most of all, thank you for letting me eat my lunch first."

Met Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) today in front of a radio-station. We knew he had an appointement there. He was in a hurry but took a couple of minutes for pics and autographs. We were only 8 fans (small wonder, on a weekday afternoon at 3:30PM) Fine chap, Mr. Dickinson, and a true polymath! (Rockstar, airline pilot, olympic-class fencer, writer, etc...)

Btw, I was posing for another camera, hence the weird angle...

My hobby/addiction is meeting celebrities and getting autographs. I usually never go to paid conventions. I usually meet celebrities out in the wild. I've meet so many people that I've lost track of who's great and who's not. I would say Oprah is probably the nicest celebrity I've ever meet. And Tracy Morgan is probably one of the worst. Tracy wouldn't even look at us to say hi. There was only 4 fans and he didn't have the time to acknowledge us. Oprah on the other hand takes time to greet every fan and sign whatever we have. If any of you have instagram check out my page - thebostonhope.

So... instead of taking part in a situation where the object of your hobby/addiction (using your own words) sets aside time and space solely for you to have the chance to fulfill your addicition, you feel the need to impose upon the potentially severely limited personal time they have to enjoy their life and/or relative privacy? Never considering the accumulative effects fans have on them? There is only one of them. There can be dozens of you.

He did say Tracy didnt even acknowledge 4 fans. I think your taking it out of context. A nod or smile isnt much to ask. Especially when theres only 4 people......
I wouldnt ignore a stranger in the street if they just said hello. Your acting like he said there was 1000 of them

Lol. I know I'm new to the forum, but I'm not new. Soti how many conventions have you gone to where you were able to meet Jeff Bridges, Bruce Springsteen, Denzel Washington, Oprah, or the Rolling Stones? I mean, I understand why people go to conventions for little people to complete a certain price they are working for. Let's say a BTTF piece, and you need Christopher Lloyd, I get that. But when you want A List celebrities, you need to get them at random events and places. I make no apologies for doing what I love. I don't ever have to pay for autographs and I get almost everyone I go for. But at the same time, I don't find it rude at all. Any celebrity can say no to an autograph request or photo with, and when it happens it sucks, but it is what it is. If they say no, I don't keep trying. Doing this, I've been able to hang out with so many bands, have long conversations with people like Oprah, Joel McHale, Jeff Bridges, and Christian Bale (who by the way, has a large collection of original Batman Props). Soti, maybe you think I'm the guy who's bothering a celebrity when they are with their family and kids, or having dinner, but that's not me. I realize there's a time and place. And I don't overstep my boundaries.

Dimebagslash, thank you. There were four of us, which by the way, we had tickets to the show, And, each ticket was $175. And Tracy wouldn't look at us. He's my Least favorite celebrity because of that experience.

Wait!!!!!!! It wasn't Tracy Morgan!!!! It was Chris Tucker. So sorry, I mix them up. Tracy was nice, but it was Chris Tucker who wouldn't look at us. Sorry for the mistake.

Lol. I didn't mean to insult Tracy Morgan. Ive met him a few times, and hes always been really nice. And Chris Tucker isn't an A Lister, I didn't mean to imply that he is. Steven Tyler from Aerosmith is one of my favorites. He's always nice.

You better hope he never catches wind of you confusing him with Chris Tucker, or maybe he won't be so nice anymore.

:lol

Adam Baldwin is goofy and fun, :).

Nathan Fillion is a real sweetheart, love his smile.

Felicia Day, best celebrity I have ever met. We chatted for about five minutes while I got a few autographs.

Meeting Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins this October and looking forward to it. I have heard mostly good things about all three; otherwise, I wouldn't be interested in getting the photo-ops.

My younger sister had a horrible experience with Norman Reedus. He apparently was very drunk, (***looked shady wearing sunglasses - likely to cover up bloodshot eyes***), showed up an hour and a half late to his photo-ops, and was all creepy with her. She also told me that the guy who plays Pinhead was awfully rude. On the other hand, her experience with Peter Dinklage was amazing - he was very friendly and funny with fans. I haven't even seen Game of Thrones but just hearing her describe her experience with Peter Dinklage makes me hope that I get a photo-op/autograph with him someday.

EDIT ABOUT THE (*** ***): I have been informed by another member that Norman Reedus may be wearing sunglasses due to issues resulting from eye surgery, so I take this particular statement back.

my turn at last..42 pages of celebrity jerks...awesome

I met Nixon secretary of the interior Walter J Hickel when I was a kid..he was a former governor of Alaska and basically a pro environment liberal republican..he patted me and my brother on the head and said " Hi son " :) very big deal to me at the time..seemed like a nice guy..Nixon fired him for speaking up in favor of the students after the Kent State shootings...yay Wally.

I also met Arlo Guthrie the musician..son of legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie in the small town in florida where my family lives..he was very quiet but very polite..he is apparently now a registered republican which may be some kind of inside joke since he pretty much made his career as poster child for the counter-culture.

Also met Cindi Lauper who was super cool..I had it all planned out what I was going to say to her then just froze..probably happens a lot to famous people...she was really nice anyway...asked me about my music...she didn`t have a trace of the exaggerated Queens New York accent she`s famous for but was very soft spoken and articulate..also she is very very pretty in person and guess what...she`s older than me....really nice ass..i doubt she`s a republican.

btw I`m a socialist hehe

almost forgot..I also saw Lady Bird Johnson who for all you kids who don`t like history was First Lady and wife of US president Lyndon B Johnson on the beach in North Carolina..I didn`t get to meet her..she was driving down the beach with a few other people in the car..I don`t recall there being any obvious security around..things were different back then...she smiled and waved and everyone was glad to see her.

I also saw Nixon and Agnew up close and personal in Washington DC 1972 at the inauguration...after the election...before Watergate...cops and secret service everywhere..as well as 100`s of thousands of protesters...I guess a lot more people had a problem with them than Lady Bird.

I'm not defending his other actions, but if I recall correctly, Reedus wears sunglasses because of an old injury and the resulting surgery he had done on his eye socket. It's either his eye is permanently sensitive, or he's self-conscious about his scar, or something like that.

I can understand that and I will pass that on to her. Thanks so much! Assuming that this is true, I retract the specific statement about Norman Reedus' shadiness due to sunglasses, at least.
