Celebrity jerks?

Best ever, Robert/ Nancy Englund. I spent a weekend with him and his wife Nancy thanks to my good friends Anders and Asia Eriksen. Robert is incredibly accommodating full of great stories. We walked along the beach in Laguna stopping at every bar along the way for drinks and appetizers. Along with Roberts tour guide routine of Laguna :). At the end of the night they told me to stay in the guest room. To this day I can't process it.

Not so much a known celebrity but Les Claypool of PRIMUS, Great guy, funny, a bit awkward. Not sure he grasps that he is one of the greatest bass players who has ever walked this planet. Personal hero of mine , just so happens we have the same birthday.
Very cool, Les Claypool?? :cool:thumbsup The guy ROCKS! (or is it Harold of the rocks?:D);)

I haven't met many celebs, only a few musicians when going to concerts. The two that stand out were in the summer of 2000 when my cousin wanted me to see 3 Doors Down and Nickelback. After the show (which was better than I expected and still like Nickelback's earlier albums) Chad Kroeger came behind the merchandise table in front of us and it was like the room went quiet for a second before folks started to freak out. My cousin just simply asked for his autograph on his ticket stub and everyone followed with their stubs and he was super cool and friendly.

The other is one of the coolest moments for me as it was after seeing Deftones perform and waiting outside in a light rain for over an hour with about 30 other people hoping for an autograph or pic and not knowing if they had already snuck out elsewhere. Finally Chino Moreno comes out and everyone is going nuts. He is in awe of many staying after the show and everyone swarms around him and I was luckily one of the first around him and told him how f-king great the show was and how he rules, etc. With everyone screaming he just kept thanking everyone around him. I get him to autograph my ticket stub and still have both stubs signed in my cd cases for each album I got when seeing them live. Both came off very humble and happy to have such fans.

I've also met Hines Ward a couple of times as we went to the same Middle and High School. He would come back every year or two to see the same teachers and very humbled as well.

I would love to throw a monkey wrench in here and write about how nice Matt Winston is, son of Stan Winston. I met him at a Trek convention and he was genuinely one of the nicest people I ever spoke to. He cared about fans, made an effort to get to know us, and went above and beyond. It made it even more special that the last thing the guy needed was the $20 for a picture (which he didn't even want at that). Made a great trip even better. :thumbsup

He is a really nice guy! He gave my husband a great interview! Stan Winston School of Character Arts w/ Matt Winston! - YouTube

I've only met a few celebs, and was only interested in one. One was very rude; I don't know who he was but he was from True Blood (friend wanted to see him) and he was very terse around everyone. Kept cutting people off mid-sentence and misspelling names and not caring about it at all. Meaghan Rath wasn't intentionally being rude because I'll admit my friends were acting like stalkers but she also notably sped up to get away, which I found hilarious. Not a celebrity around you guys, but in the land of robotics Dean Kamen is very well known. He's also a total ******. But on the good side of thing Edward James Olmos is my homeboy. He gave a free autograph (it should have cost me $60 and I didn't realize it til after) and he let me talk to him for a full half hour and he let me listen to the Benjamin button soundtrack with his earbuds, which he was using for getting into a role. So awesome!

Not another one of these.

I'm sure everyone of you is polite and congenial to everyone you meet everyday in every circumstance of life.

Can't you folks let these folks have a bad day and not ***** about it like a bunch of old ladies.

It's their JOB when in public to be at least polite.
Especially when they are at an event where they are getting paid/charging for autographs.
If you hassle someone who is out with their kids or at dinner... well I guess you take your chances, but otherwise it's just good business on their part to be polite.

Kinda tells you what kind of person they are if they have several "bad days" in public....

It's your JOB to behave in a professional manner while at work, yet there are days where everyday people are just in a foul mood and go off.

Apply that to celebrities, who not only lead naturally stressful lives (flying all over the place, auditions, long work hours, etc) but are also under near-constant scrutiny and observation (the papparazzi are everywhere and constantly harass them), and it's honestly a miracle that celebrities don't snap more often.

No, acting is their job.

Would it behoove them to act more graciously at public appearances? Absolutely. And yes, I think people should generally be nice to each other. But nobody is obligated to be nice to you.

They don't owe you anything other than the autograph you paid for.

I think that at a public appearance, it is their job to be nice even if they had a bad day. That is also a form of acting. Acting nice is being nice.

Unless it's somehow contractually obligated, it's not their job to be nice. Like I said, should they be nice? I would say yes. Does it benefit them to be nice? Again, yes. Would I say that it makes them a jerk if they're not nice at a public appearance? Absolutely.

But, no, it's not their job to listen to everyone's story; shake everyone's hand; pose for a picture with everyone. It's just not.

A little of topic But has anyone ever met Mike Rooker ? Is he a nice guy..

met him at a Chiller con a couple years ago (pre-WD)... he was a regular guy, really friendly. i got an autograph on a pic from "the replacement killers"... we talked for about 20 minutes about how he did a lot of his own stunts in the movie.

Cool stories!
Nickelback, Casey Affleck, Brad Pitt, Andy McDowell, & Paul Gross.
N: Met them all backstage many times. ALL awesome and polite. Chad is a bit tired after shows.
CA: On the set of Assassination of Jesse James, I did not recognize him and asked him the time (a BIG no-no for extras); we chatted for a few minutes. Cool guy. Then I got in trouble from an AD.
BP: HE waved at me as I walked by and glance at him. I did a double take and probably gave him the dumbest look with an awkward wave. He also ran into my girlfriend nearby that day and they chatted for a few blocks. VERY cool guy.
AM: Got kicked out of a pool in Banff for her (allegedly). Probably for the better. I was a teen at the time and have ALWAYS had a crush on that woman. I would have kicked me out too.
PG: Have run into him many times. A very imposing man. But a very nice guy. Immensely polite.

Very few of the people you meet at a convention get a fee to be there. At least in my experience. The many that don't often go into the hole to get in front of you-they don't even get rooms comped. It's all business, folks. Every once in a while you get someone who's risen above that, but for the most part, yeah that.
