Cassian Andor (Andor Series) Blaster (MW-20 Bryar Pistol)

This looks so great! Do the screws hold the grips in place or are they just there to match appearance?
Yes they do, I glued them in place on the finished one just to be extra secure. But the model has registration so it sits correctly if just screwed in with the M3. Leaving removable allows access the the trigger mechanism.

The tricky part is going to be engineering it so that the barrel can spin if you want it to. Why does it spin? What does Cassian do for it to spin, and why? Does it power it up, reload it?
The Nerf Maverick has a mechanism that does this so I wonder if it can be copied or kit bashed to do this.
Also because the swivelling barrel is a separate component if you want it lit you'll need a power port, recharge batteries to make it happen without taking it out.

The prop department actually answered that exact question, it spins/rotates because the blaster runs hot, it’s a secondary barrel so it doesn’t overheat.

Thanks, then it would be cool to integrate a trigger mechanism that after some pulls it increases luminosity of the leds inside. Then after so many clicks it rotates.

But thats far beyond my abilities at the moment.

Seems there could be both canon version and prop replica version as Diego Luna said he controlled it with a button.

I just remembered emeluis (member from Spain) who built a similar gun...way before the series o_O(y)(y)

I swear they did those close-up shots as a service to all the fans out there trying to replicate this pistol! ;)

There have been several shots where I thought that -- when Skeen has Andor's stuff all laid out on Aldhani, and then the shots of the lockbox on Niamos...these days there are numerous prop makers working on shows who've come from the community; I like to think it's one way to give back :D

Anyone have screen grabs of the new Merr-Sonn?

The cap-that.com archive of episode 12 just posted - [ cap-that.com ] Star Wars: Andor 112 Rix Road > screencap archive
it's a great resource for screencaps, although as the process is automated, it's sometimes hit or miss as to whether they get a clear frame of what you're looking for.

This is the best one they've got of the Merr-Sonn:

I was able to grab this myself:

EDIT: Not to clutter up the Bryar Pistol thread too much; I grabbed a few screen caps myself and uploaded everything to Flickr here:

yes, it’s a variant from the original trilogy, used by Imperial officers, which is why Dedra was carrying one. In the OT it had curled telephone cabling where theres a straight cable here.

Hi, Guys.

I want to get some advice on painting one of these up, especially now that we have the last episode close-up shots. As was said, there’s a lot of copper in there that I didn’t realize until e12. Initially I was gonna do a coat of light silver under a layer of dark gunmetal then used some thnned out oils to lift up some of the gunmetal, but now I’m not sure how to tackle this. Should I put the copper underneath and follow the same process as above or should I make the base all black and drybrush the copper over?

Normally I’d use Tamiya rattle cans, as I don’t have an airbrush, but I’m willing to get one if necessary to make this project perfect.

Any advice would be most welcome. Specific colors/brands, techniques, anything. Thanks!

I'm thinking of going all rebel (pun intended) and steer clear of all the usual suspects colourwise for a SW blaster.
No gunmetal, No blacks and no silver/chrome.

It looks to my untrained eye that it's a copper base with a very dark brown top coat worn away to show the copper underneath and a nice smooth not at all woody, rather bakelite chocolate coloured grip.

All kind of adds (for me anyway) to that kind of inherited relic feeling that it should have bearing in mind the weapons origin/history.

Just my tuppenceworth on the matter anyway.

I gotta agree with ya! The handle definitely has that Bakelite feeling to it. I never tried that technique before, but I’m willing to give it a go.

I like your take on it. I wonder if a copper undercoat and darker color on top would be the answer then. I’m gonna have to get a cheap nerf gun and try it out first. I don’t have a printer, so I got a kit (really nice one too with all the hardware and spinning barrel ect) coming and I want to make sure I can get the tone right.

Here’s so very large much lighter pics.
