Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Pre-release)

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Evans did get pretty bulked up for Cap, he is a superhero, but he's still human so he cant be 350 lbs of pure muscle lol. The outfits conceal his muscles because hes not bulletproof and he does need protection. That bulky hooded cowl and those gauntlets in The Avengers really made him looked toned down... but I always blame Coulson for that :lol

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Another thing to consider:

I've known a few "muscle-bound" guys, and while they could bench-press a Buick, they really don't have all that much flexibility. Chris Evans really strikes a good median as being strong and muscular, but still flexible and nimble enough to pull off the fight maneuvers. And yeah, I have seen in wrestling guys that were agile for their size and all. But you cannot really be built like a tank and maneuver like a jet fighter; that may work in the comics, but not in film (at least with non-CGI actors).

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Enjoy Chris Evans Yes, he is a different Cap for a different age. Cap size wise looked ok in 1st cap movie but is he the imposing figure Captain America should be imho....No.... he looks like he should be at the kids table when the avengers assembled ( for example )

Seriously?

....he is more The Human Torch than he is Captain America in photo above

I am glad they are making the movies Chris evans is doing a fine joband I enjoyed him in tfa but to say without a doubt when I see him in cap's uniform on screen I am seeing Captain America I grew up reading and cheering for come to life I do not and that is what matters to me not what you say what he said what she said what they said or how many photos someone shows me of evans in a t shirt.

The Avengers uniform is the worst of the three. It is that perticular costume that makes him look bad. He looks just fine in the others.

If that's the case.... are Black Widows breats large enough in comparison to the drawn version of her?
No, they aren't. Thanks for bring it up.
I'd get past it if she had the same or similar hair from Ironman 2.

THIS^^.

The Avengers outfit was weak. I liked the original WWII digs way better. Way to go Coulson... maybe Loki impaled you because of your horrible fashion sense.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I am definitely not a fan of Cap's Winter Soldier costume and prefer the Avengers costume over it. I'd love to see them find a mix of the WWII and Avengers costume to make something a bit modern.... his look in Winter Soldier just doesn't look like Captain America to me.

I wonder if using the Steve Rogers Agent of SHIELD/Super Soldier suit is a market ploy to make it more palatable to non-US markets?

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

As a "non-US market" subject, I personally don't care wether or not he's wearing the american flag colours, he's captain america after all :lol, and I don't think that non-americans viewers mind about the colours either. What gets on their nerves is overly patriotic scenes, but I haven't seen anything like that in any Marvel movies, no more than usual at least.
On another note, I'm happy to learn I'll be able to see it before April, just like the UK :D

Perhaps. I'm currently outside, um, the US market and have no problem wearing the red, white and blue. Wore it last week, currently wearing the Star and Bar shirt.
I think it's more the plot device like Kevin said, just remember the lines from the trailers: "this isn't freedom... this is fear" and "I thought the punishment came after the crime".
This is be an awsome movie.
I see the Winter Soldier Prelude has Mark Millar as one of the authors. So, yeah, this is looking real good.

Just hope it doesn't go as far as having the Cap go full Nomad since we have Falcon... but that would mean the return of Hawkeye.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I read a history of the Tim Burton series of Batman films, and the toy companies were right in the development of each film right from the start. The studio had signed lucrative deals with them, so the toy companies had some muscle and wanted a NEW Batman suit in each movie, and sometimes more than one, in order to be able to SELL MORE TOYS to people who already owned the Batman figure from the previous film(s).

I feel that's what's at work here, not ONLY with the introduction of the Commander Steve Rogers, S.H.I.E.L.D. stealth suit, but ALSO with the redesign of the World War 2 uniform.

In this case, I don't happen to mind, because I like this revised WW2 suit better than the one in TFA, and I very much like the stealth suit, though I do prefer the version in the comics, with much cleaner, simpler, tailoring, and the circle around the star on the chest, with smaller versions of it on the shoulders. Clean, simple, bold, masculine and handsome.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

I would be inclined to agree with you on the TFA suit if they made drastic changes to it, but they didn't... The fact of the matter is they sold off the suits used in the first film, so they had to remake them.

With the Batman movies I'd have to say I'm not surprised that the merchandising side actually had a lot of say. You could almost see that in a lot of movies where there's heavy merchandising. Then there's Star Wars: the movie had so many no-name, two-second screen time characters that were still action figure worthy and in some cases became iconic staples of our childhood play. Maybe that's why there's such a huge expanded universe. We had these figures that had no real purpose and wwere left to imagine their backstories...

I think the movie version of the stealth suit is actually better than the comic version. I like the removal of the circle and how it seems a little more muted and not so spandexy.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Toy Biz used to own Marvel and now Disney. Trust me, they're never going to stop pushing new outfits in each movie, they're gonna keep digging that gold mine until it's dry.

I think the only reason TDKR didn't have a new batsuit was because Nolan had enough say (and he doesn't care for new suits unless it extends from his storytelling) and WB gives more creative control to its talent than most other studios.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

The Marvel figures are always horrible looking anyway. They use those horrible ball hip joins that makes any figure look ridiculous.

Fortunately, the toy companies take liberties that go beyond the movie and don't incorporate every merch idea into the movie.

If this is in the movie my enthusiasm about seeing TWS just went way down. Maybe I'm jupming to conclusions and seeing Cap shoot rockets off his head would actually be cool.

Oh I disagree 100000000000%! Cap does not need "tech". I don't mind seeing him shoot a gun occasionally, but that and his shield is all the tech cap needs. Leave the missiles to Iron Man.

I seriously doubt that will be in the movie. For one, that looks completely like an up-armored version of what he's wearing in the trailers we've seen. Second, as you said, the merchandise that is produced is just ridiculous half the time and we never see half the things on the toys in the actual films...I wouldn't worry.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

In other news, via her Letterman appearance last night I learned that Scarlett has been cheating on me for the past two years with a French advertising weasel and is going to marry him.
