Captain America Shield Painting

I know there is already a few dedicated threads to the painting of a Cap. shield. I couldn’t find the “main” one, or else I would have just added to it, so I apologize. But I wanted to pass along my findings regarding the last shield I just finished up.

I typically don’t clear coat my shields due to it muting the Dupli-Color Metal Cast, and losing the translucent effect. But after experimenting with different clear coats, I found the Krylon ColorMaxx Satin finish to be (by far) my favorite. It looks great, and didn’t really effect the Dupli-Color like the others. It almost looks like I didn’t use anything. So if you’re looking for a clear coat, HIGHLY recommend the Krylon ColorMaxx. Also, the shield I just finished, the base aluminum ring was NOT coated. Just an FYI.

Looks fantastic. I've been holding off on clear coating mine for fear of losing some of the sheen, so thanks for recommending one. Where'd you get this? Comic Sandwiches or CapShieldCentral?

Thank you! I used a clear coat on one of my early shields, and I hated the way it dulled the colors. This new Krylon on solves that problem.

This one was from CapShIeldCentral.

Yeah that's where I got mine from. Once I get that clear coat on it I'll finally feel safe enough to take it somewhere, I'm always so scared of scratching it

Same here. Felt a lot better once I knew it was protected. Be sure to share when you’re all done, would love to see it finished.

I used Dupli-Color Metalcast for a shield I made and decided not to clear coat it. When I made a 2nd shield I had learned about VHT anodized spray paints. Then I did a clear coat with VHT satin clear.

IMO they are much closer to the films than Metalcast. Though, admittedly, your Metalcast paint job is better than mine.
