I know there is already a few dedicated threads to the painting of a Cap. shield. I couldn’t find the “main” one, or else I would have just added to it, so I apologize. But I wanted to pass along my findings regarding the last shield I just finished up.
I typically don’t clear coat my shields due to it muting the Dupli-Color Metal Cast, and losing the translucent effect. But after experimenting with different clear coats, I found the Krylon ColorMaxx Satin finish to be (by far) my favorite. It looks great, and didn’t really effect the Dupli-Color like the others. It almost looks like I didn’t use anything. So if you’re looking for a clear coat, HIGHLY recommend the Krylon ColorMaxx. Also, the shield I just finished, the base aluminum ring was NOT coated. Just an FYI.
