Captain America : First Avenger Suit

Hey Everybody,

Seems like I just can't get enough Cap, after working on the game for almost 2 years now I'm diving into a Captain America costume. I started really working on this a few weeks ago and wanted to share what I've gotten so far. I think it's starting to come together, it's my first attempt at sewing so it's been quite a learning experience.

Thanks Guys!

Yeah they're my own patterns. I modelled the costume in 3d first and have been kind of using pep to help lay out the ground work for the patterns. Requires a lot of tweaking though. I imagine it's quite similar to converting pep to foam templates.

This is going to be fun to watch. Looking good so far, I might have to pull out my sewing machine and attempt sewing myself.

Well done. Great fabric, too! Those colors look perfect. (y)thumbsup:thumbsup

Thanks I spent a lot of time trying to find the right fabrics. The white I picked up is perfect and I'm pretty happy with the blue. The black is tough to work with though, I wanted a cotton twill but I had a hard time finding it in the grey/black, the stuff I have is a bit elastic and tough to work with but the end result is turning out quite nice.

Nice work! Feel free to share peps when done

Thanks, once the build is finished I will probably release the pep files. Though they're more of a template than anything, they require some adjustments and customizing.

Here's a shot of the first test for the jacket template, I've made a few adjustments since then.

Thought it was about time I posted an update. I've been so caught up with building my suit I just haven't had a chance. The build is coming along but it's definitely going to be down to the wire. I've got almost everything put together in one form or another. Now I'm just trying to get that last 20% to make the suit shine.

I also learned a really important lesson, buy more fabric than you think you'll need. I ran out of the blue I used for the jacket/shoulders. I managed to finally find the end of the roll and get a little bit of the fabric but it wasn't enough to make the pants. By some miracle though I managed to find a pair of pants at Value Village, in my size, that were almost an exact match to the fabric. I'm hoping I have enough fabric to do some detail work on the pants, time permitting.

Here's the back connector pieces, I've been using cardboard and wall hole filler stuff to hide the corrugated edges. I'm planning on resining them after this and sanding them down before I paint them.

Here's my first gauntlet which I just finished tonight. It goes over top of some leather gloves I have.

One of the belt pouches, really happy how these turned out.

The boots turned out alright. I found some tan work boots at a military surplus store for 20 bucks. Used some brown leather dye to change the color of them and swapped out the laces. Then I added the top part with the buckles, made out of craft foam and vinyl. Color match isn't perfect but it's not too noticeable in person.

Here's a bit of an older shot of the jacket and shoulders, pretty happy with how these turned out. Kind of wish I had gone with a lighter thread color though so more of the details popped.
