Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

I think the 57mm of the TF Johnson looks great as an Aviator. 59mm of the Paul Smith Walton looks great and fits great as well but pushing the limits. 62mm of the Bromley is great as a movie prop on screen but in practice it looks rather silly. Especially when used with clear lenses.
I think we're talking about personal preference here - and what you can pull off!
There are plenty on this forum who would enjoy the larger frame I'm sure.

You could argue that the Jaques Marie Mage Ascari look "silly" in some peoples opinion & more recently the Saint Laurent SL572 due to the exaggerated thickness of the frame structure and arms - I happen to think both look great, as do the Bromley - if you can pull them off.
It's all down to personal preference and inappropriate to label a particular frame - even the Lens3s Lol

Lots of those look good on the red carpet and add promos. Not so much in general public and at work. Just being realistic about it. Even RDJ looks silly in lots of his Eyewear selection. It's ok for him though he had the money and many large events to try new things and looks.

Yes - but that's your opinion.

As a general "rule" on the forum we've tended to not double down on opinions of looking silly etc as that's purely a personal view and it's not being realistic if it directly contradicts the view of another member who maybe loves wearing the Bromley more than any other.

That's how we roll on here

We can say when something looks good but not allowed to say something doesn't look good?

Listen - I'm not making the rules here.

Gio got the Bromley. He will be thrilled to bits and I'm sure they look great when he wears them.

For sure you/I can say maybe not for me but I would never tell Gio they look silly just because it wouldn't work for me.

I remember back in the 80s wearing Kangol hats, MA1 coats and big Nike hightops. People used to laugh at us - 4 years later everyone was wearing them Lol

It's all down to perception really.

I probably couldn't pull off the Bromley - the Ascari and Saint Laurent look great however (IMO) but it wouldn't surprise me if there are people out there that think I look silly - that's up to them.

I think it's just choice of words really, and we can't judge tone via message of course

If we can't judge tone via messages I would think we would want to encourage more conversation, not tamp it down. If someone doesn't like the word "silly" they can simply ask- "why" or "what do you mean by that"? We can change the word ro something else and mean the same exact thing but I'm unsure how that would help anything but coddle a fragile ego. Lots of this Eyewear is like art. We should be able to critique it and explore the critiques as well.

I'm simply flagging up how this forum has gone about its business in the past.

I don't think it's an ego thing - in the past I engaged on Martial arts forums (not anymore) and that is definitely ego based and becomes unpleasant, I've no time for keyboard warriors.

I think it's really good that yourself and others have recently joined the conversation - it keeps it going and you're right that we don't have to agree.

My slight issue is with wording. If I send a pic of me wearing the Saint Laurent SL572 which I love and am told it looks silly the firstly I'll take offence at someone being so linear in their thinking and secondly I'd want to know who made that person the judge of style.

Based on the 372 page history of this forum that's just not how things have been done

We are all random people on the internet. I would hope someone doesn't take offense to me the random guy expressing an opinion, even if unflattering. Would you trust someone that is as truthful as possible? Or prefer they coat it with sugar? You're a martial arts guy. Just assume you could whoop me up if i were to attack you physically and be happy for that fact. I'll never overtly and disrespectfully say you look silly, but I would think It would be ok for us to describe inanimate objects like glasses (in specific contexts) that way. There are contexts where I think the Bromleys look great and there are contexts where they look....different. is that too harsh to say?

the comparison everyone (actually no one) was waiting for, bromley and jason’s initium movie version worn under the same light

I have to say something: of course I’m happy I managed to get a pair of mosley tribes after five years, but jason’s version is one of my favorite frames in my collection, I even wore them at my wedding (my wife didn’t want to get a divorce lawyer right after that, unexpectedly). I think that tint in the lenses is a bit darker than the movie ones, but that makes them the perfect tint for indoor/evenings, I like it so much that I made my optician copy that tint and put it in another tons of frames I already had, like for example the dark havana tom ford.

anyway, tl dr, here’s the comparison

Thank you for posting the pics, it's really helpful. I always assumed the initium recreation was more accurate than that. You can see that the shape design is different. That's a bummer. I wonder why initium couldn't just recreate it outright? Copyright?

if I remember correctly the intention was to recreate it but in a shape more suitable for everyday, but maybe other members know something more, I was new in the forum at that time

LoL they should have just recreated it and not get involved with tweaking it. Obviously people want to buy it based on what they saw in the movie. I was seriously considering buying a pair and went with spending on the soloist glasses instead for now.

The initium 3000 you can really see the difference in the bottom corners and a little on how the eyebrow near the bridge area arches more on the Bromleys. Subtle differences where a couple mm makes a big impression.

I don’t know, do you have a trusted optician that could do that? I can say that the clear soloist are among my favorites, good also I have a contract with a lab and trust them with ANY frame I bring them. Prescription or non! Let me know guys!

That last reply didn't edit correctly,
I have a contract with a lab that will cut any kind of lens color contrast you need. Prescription or non. I just have clients ship the frames and email me their prescription if needed. Turn around time is 5 days tops plus shipping time. Prices are 1/4 of what you are paying your local lab, most likely. Message me if you guys need ANY lenses done! Thanks and happy hunting!

What happened to this thread? Please make another thread saying "I hate these sunglasses", thanks.

Please understand the title of this thread. There are people who have finally found frames that they love and cherish after years of searching, so this is not the place to announce that these frames are ridiculous. If you don't like any of the frames, please give them to someone else as soon as possible. This thread is for simply praising RDJ's sunglasses and sharing the joy.

Please read this thread from start to finish.

My apologies I didn't think it was that sensitive a topic. Most people can handle some criticisms i didn't mean for hostilities. In my country people are more upfront and honest about things especially amongst men. I was not attempting to hurt people's feelings and it was not my intention. I actually like the bromleys just for occasions though for reasons specified.

I'm glad you like bromley. It's a great thing. I am very hated on this site. Someone mentioned earlier that some members are not friendly, I am that person. Don't be hated like me.
