Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

Hey guys ! Completely useless info but did you know that he wore the M3023 outside the movie set ? I just came across this pic :

It might have been common knowledge, but this is definitely going to the non-movie list !

I came across that set of images myself recently. I was delighted to see those red Matsuda getting more use than one brief scene in iron man 3

It's not specialized paint, just PlastiKote.

To paint them is really not that difficult and a lot easier if the frame is stripped down.

The small Gunnar "G" logo "temple square" runs the whole show and helps tighten the frame front on to the lenses and also holds the arms on to the frame front.
View attachment 1444054
First, squeeze the arm section here, pressing together with your thumb and forefinger...
View attachment 1444055
This will remove the arm completely.

The temple square will press out of the frame.

Now the lenses will come out. Just take care as the frame sits in a groove that is cut in to the lens edge. The lenses don't really pop out, but rather the frame has to be very carefully taken off the lens groove until the lens has enough room to come free.
The clear silicone nose pads will just press out of the nose pad holders (Top tip (y): Make a note of which is which (L+R) as they are similar looking!!).

Now you have just the frame front to play with. :D

Very lightly sand the frame front with very fine grade sandpaper to create a key for the paint to hold on to.

A quick light dusting with a few coats of grey primer and it will be ready for the color.

The trick for spray painting something so small is MEGA light coats of paint.
It's not like spraying a car panel!! Haha.

It might test your patience, as it's almost human nature to want to load on the paint in one go.
By using extremely light coats, the paint is critically able to dry thoroughly between coats. Very fine coats will also help the overall finish.
I can't stress enough about using mega light coats!!o_O

If you are heavy handed with the spraying it will come back to get you later!! - The finished job might look okay, but when you come to handle the frame, the paint won't be dry underneath and the finish will be damaged. Even if you left it to dry for days, it still wouldn't be dry underneath!!
I learnt this the hard way!! Lol.

It may take you a few attempts to get it right or achieve something that you are happy with. You can always strip it back and start afresh.

The Gunnar "G" temple part, I painted this bit by just putting it face down on to a piece of masking tape.

Don't be too hard on yourself if the finish isn't perfect and expect to lose some paint when re-assembling the parts (this metal on metal paint loss will happen on original Gunnar paint too). At the end of the day, a 100% perfect paint job probably isn't really possible with a spray can, but you can get close with patience - even if you did get it 100%, as I said, there would be paint loss when putting back together as the parts (frame/lenses/arms/temple square) are quite tight fitting.

Hope this helps:cool:
Paint and primer ordered :)

I've contacted my optometrist to ask if he could darken the light yellow lenses to a closer approximation of the amber

Apologies, again , quite a bit off the eyewear topic, but I thought I'd share some pics.

My homemade custom boxed Avengers glass set, also with (now I have 2 instead of 1) as in the movie, of the Colantotte Avengers bracelets in the correct size of Large)...

Despite my garage being full of the usual family garage type stuff , I'm trying to reclaim at least some of it back for the man cave for which it was originally intended, LOL!!!...

 The bottle of Remy is from IM2 as is the Kor One bottle + non movie etched Stark Industries glasses.
The IM1 touch sensitive arc reactor and metal IM1 (Mark 1) faceplate with custom light up eyes kit are from Wish.
The retro Oster blender from IM1 (and for the eagle-eyed, Rays Pizza and Randy's Donuts magnets).
The boxed bottle of Laphraoig is the closest everyday find to the screen used IM1 vintage rare bottle of 1987 Laphraoig Old Malt Cask 17 year whiskey, which is most likely the drink served from the Stark Industries wet bar and briefly enjoyed in the Hummer...

***edit***
I now believe the glass in the "Funvee" contained Johnnie Walker Blue Label whiskey (for the purposes of IM canon).
The other 3 bottles present (Laphraoig, Jose Cuervo Tequila and Johnnie Walker Black Label) are all unopened.

The bottle of Blue Label is not only right next to the poured glass of whiskey just about to be picked up (hand just appearing in bottom left of shot), but is already opened and is missing the same amount as is already in the glass...

It's the older style bottle (possibly circa 2000?)...

Maybe Blue Label is his preferred brand??

"That is an excellent question, yes, this is my favourite tipple!!"

Okay neat. The matte sandalwood bernardos I bought have a place in the collection.

So what about these frames outside the Late Show with David Letterman on April 23rd 2015 in New York?..

...and again here, on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon in New York on April 27th 2015...
20210408_090637.png 20210408_090545.png 20210408_090611.png

They are Oliver Peoples West "Ajax" OV5303-S 1502/1l (matte soft grey tortoise frame, but with the stock polarized green mirror lenses swapped out for custom light purple lenses 52□19 145)...
20210408_103050.png 20210408_101847.jpg 20210408_101818.jpg 20210408_101723.jpg 20210408_102006.jpg 20210408_102333.jpg 20210408_101918.jpg 20210408_102227.jpg 20210408_101752.jpg

The OP "West" collection of frames each feature hybrid material on the temple arms that fuses titanium, acetate and a silicone grip for all day comfort.

I liked the style so much I felt compelled to pick up a pair of Oliver Peoples West "Gaviota" too!! (OV5283-S 1478/Z5 54□16 145)...hit them up with some peach for a change...

Love it! Thanks for sharing!

From what we are aware of, no.
Everyone seems to be getting Initium lenses or just waiting for more info.

Also does anyone know how things are on Initium's end?

I haven't really called in and asked around for updates and such. Like news if the Hardaways are coming back and so on.
From what I understand Jason's brother is looking after the company now. Not going to lie, the lack of response from Intium these days leaves a lot to be desired. I have a few messages left on unread wanting to make a purchase once I have the info.

Was thinking the same thing recently! If it hadn’t been for you on this group I wdv messaged Jason about a lense change and wondered why he ignored me...not that Im bitching caus I get it!! The fact is that initium have most of their glasses (sales) based on the iron man franchise, and when they dont, they they’ve recreated the glasses from Roy tower and Mosley tribes to keep it going!! so I’m hoping now the movies are over and Jason has passed, they can keep recreating new styles

New material for research... ✌
