Suggestion Can we loose the 'Multi-page thread' icon?

Is the Multi-page thread icon really necessary? We have the (1 2 3......Last Page) indicating there are multiple pages with (1 2) as soon as a thread goes to a second page. The number of replies count is also a clue to how much is going on in a thread. So, isn't the icon a little redundant?

I use the Dark background / Light text style and the Multi-page thread icon makes (to my eyes, anyway) visually annoying little white blips sprinkled across the list of threads that draws the eye to them. So if not eliminated, maybe tone down the brightness of the icon and the parenthesis a little bit.....
