Thanks TK7602. Your photos turned out great. Thanks for posting them.

This was, for me personally, a dream come true. At one point, when it was only me and my good friend Kris Sanders in the room adjusting my outfit, Anthony Daniels came into the room and inspected the suit. He gave me some excellent comments and suggestions on the outfit. He even helped me put the helmet on. How cool is that?? Then he said, "Let's hear the voice." ...

Now, it's embarassing to admit that for the past 2 months I've been spending my nearly 35 minute commute to and from work practicing Threepio lines and trying to get the voice right. I think it's a bit late to admit that I'm a gi-normous nerd. I had been doing this, even inventing improvised conversations using the voice, in the pathetic hope that I'd be prepared for someday, somewhere, after hell freezes over, where I'd be able to carry on some kind of conversation at an event somewhere within earshot of Anthony Daniels so that if he heard it he might come over and we might have a fun conversation.

I know... somehow "delusional" just doesn't quite say it.. As someone once put it, the probability of this happening was approximately three thousand seven hundred and twenty - to one.

And yet, there I was, all that practice... and when AD said those words, I haltingly stumbled over what must've sounded more like Threepio after Chewie had just reattached his head on backwards. It was excruciatingly awkward. It would be different if he said, "Let's hear Boba Fett" but hearing the one constant icon of every Star Wars movie say, "Let's hear you [imitate me]" caught me off guard. BUT, in my best fussy-british-butler accent I managed to get out the line,

"HelloIamseethreepiohumancyborgrelations.."

AD said, "That's good. But you need to slow it down a little".

Relieved to be out from under such mental torure, I joked, "but I thought it was supposed to be "faster... more intense?." ..... Oh man, am I hilarious. We had a great laugh though. Then he signed the inside of my helmet. "Chris, Fantastic. - Anthony Daniels"
It's a real sentimental treasure. Nothing a price on ebay could ever repay.

I loved it, the Boston Museum of Science and the NEG is awesome for inviting and hosting me.
I've uploaded some more photos here: http://tinyurl.com/rcpvt

Video coming soon.

A couple more pics from the event...

That. Right there.

I can't even imagine what it's like to finish the C-3PO suit after such hard work, finally have a chance to don it, and have Anthony Daniels himself there helping you put it on. That's a once-in-a-lifetime event right there.

Congratulations, man.

that is absolutly amazing, chris.
you know how much i appreciate your work on star wars related custumes.
i´m really looking forward for my torso to arrive. can´t wait to give my ZORG head a new place to rest...
Plastikote color is also on it´s way to me.

you deserve it to have Anthony Daniels help you putting your helmet on. ;)

great pics of this event. thanks for sharing them with us.

Chris, i'm so happy for you brother. I know you've must have been beside yourself with Tony there helping you and talking with him.
You have experienced something only many can only dream of..... Namely me;-)
You deserved it my friend. I tip my bucket to you Sir and Tony.

Chris, it was an absolute pleasure to be able to do this both for you AND for us. :lol We had an amazing time and it was incredible to see you in person in the suit. Watching AD talking shop with you about the suit was facinating. He really seemed to enjoy being there with you and the suit. Well done man... well done.

P.S.

Hope we didn't scare you TOO much at the party later that night. :lol

With the FibreGlass 3PO costume it looks like they don't allow for easy walking. As compared to the film costume, which appears as if the legs operate better, making walking easier.

Actually, the awkwardness came from the feet. The knees work fine, I was trying to keep the feet on. That's an easy fix though. Thanks again for the great comments. Bob thanks for making this possible and Brian, thanks for your amazing photos. Your Tusken was killer too.

Ya know, there's a level of costuming that people like me can achieve, then there's the outstanding "OH MY GOD, That's (insert character here). To me, there used to be only one (no offence to anyone who's made great costume's in the past) of that standard on these boards...

To me, "The Wook" IS Chewie, now I'm happy to put a second on my list, you ARE C3PO.

Now, I'm not anyone of importance, but if you knew how anal I am, it's a great compliment.

I admire anyone who puts together a great costume, but you have taken it to a level that is hard, if not almost impossible to achieve. Bare in mind though, that this is coming from a complete nobody.

Cheers,

Kraig
