Building The Death Star - PRODUCTION

I feel like I have seen the speckled pattern before.

Is it possible they did something like photocopy and reduced the pattern on a sheet of old linoleum flooring then printed it on thin decal sheets?

This picture suggests there may be a layer of weathering on the lower edge of the equitorial trench. (or it's just dusty from age) That might be what is making your 'clean' trench seem to wide.

That's just plain old grime... Poor thing's been through hell and back (or at least, Missouri).

Doesn't it, though (seem familiar, that is)...? Obscure as it is, (could be reminiscent of many things) it has a distinct familiarity to it. And, yes, it wouldn't surpirse me to learn that they too used a form of applique.

I has always reminded me of a sheet of formica. It would be nice to find a sheet that you COULD just photograph and print decals from. The stuff is dirt cheap too! I swear at Hobby Lobby a few months back they had some foam board that was pretty close and you could do the same thing. I discounted it at the time because of the thickness.

in photoshop you can make the base layer your base color, then have the speckled pattern as a second put in "Multiply" mode. It will give you a better judge of what your decal will look like once overlayed onto the base color

yeah-the texture-grain tool would give you exactly wat you want. You could tweek it as much as you like until its perfect. Here are 2 examples

OK this thing is beginning to piss me off. I'm starting to get frustrated...

Three steps forward; two steps back...

Finished adding the last of the strips to the trench today, sanded smooth, and primered.

But...

Now the friggin' banding on the lower dome has gotten so damn thin its bubbling to the point that I'm going to have to grind it all off with course sand paper and redo it all.

At least this will give me the chance to add slightly thicker styrene for the second go at the banding. I need this since the upper dome has a 1.5mm "overbite". But the whole friggin' process of sanding off the old banding and applying new banding will probably take me all of next week and into the follwing week. ******mit.

And on top of all that, the stupid trench is not light proof anymore due to all the work I've done to it, so now I gotta go in and deal with that whole process - again... @#$%!

You're such a sado-masochist. I bet when you're in there with mini C-clamps attached to your man-nipples, singing along to Dancing Horses, and torturing the big girl.

"Would you laminate my trench? I'd laminate my trench."
"It puts the glue on its skin or it gets the acetone again!"

I'm having the same problem with my b-wing build. I ended up just cutting out the bubbling part (parts of styrene that I added) and substituted bondo to make up for it. The results are pretty solid...no bubbles and the added details are very strong.

Hi,

What is the situation on the DS ?
When can we see any progress ?

Personally, I am waiting impatiently.

Either he is busy doing all the work he said would take weeks to do, or doing something else. But I know what you mean, it suddenly got quiet here.
