Building Leather Achilles Armor

I am about to start building my Achilles leather armor to go in my historical room with my antiquities as well wear it out for Halloween. I was looking to use faux leather and build the main body of it as well as finding a light gauge metal to make the top armor with. Is there any tricks or tips for doing this with faux leather including a good trick to age/color the leather out to match? I already have the helmet which is commercially available. I found the media area that had detailed pictures of the original Achilles armor but was hoping someone had something I could work from as well.
